Parents need to know that the graphic novel series Heartstopper, by author-illustrator Alice Oseman, has been adapted for a popular Netflix TV series of the same name. Heartstopper: Volume 1 is a fictional graphic novel by Alice Oseman, a young adult author and illustrator.

Alice was named the Attitude Person of the Year 2023, and The British Book Awards Illustrator of the Year. Fiona Noble also included Volume Four in The Guardian's list of "The best children's books of 2021", describing it as a "joyful, tender look at first love and relationships with an inclusive cast". Production was greenlit in February 2020 by the streaming service Netflix as an eight-episode series written by Alice Oseman and starring Joe Locke and Kit Connor as Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, respectively. Charlie agrees and he meets Nick at the party, which is hosted in a giant hotel that Harry's parents rented off. They go upstairs and Charlie starts to apologize for the night before, but Nick stops him by kissing him.

When Charlie asks if Nick would date someone who is not a girl, Nick is still unsure, but thinks that maybe he would.Drawings show an incident of shoving, slamming against a wall, and being forcibly kissed, with the victim's distress clearly shown. Tara Jones, a lesbian and old friend of Nick's who becomes his confidant when he starts to explore his sexuality. That night, Nick worries about Charlie as he thinks back on how much Charlie has been bullied in the past and what happened with Ben. As they get to know each other both at school and outside of it, they start to develop feelings beyond friendship for each other that are confusing in different ways.

Nick then asks Charlie if he wants to join the rugby team, which Charlie agrees to after some slight protesting.Nick screams about Charlie at the ocean, before finally solidifying the fact that they are boyfriends. That night, Nick tries to talk to Tao about Elle, but yet again he refuses to tell her about his feelings. Alaine Martaus also reviewed Volume One in The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books in which she praised the "simple drawings" which she says "keep much of the focus on faces and phones, reinforcing a deeply interpersonal connection at the heart of the story". He's very considerate of others' feelings and thoughtful, he bravely stands up and speaks out for what's right.
