Comfort is paramount when it comes to headphones, especially for extended use. The Shokz OpenFit prioritizes comfort in three ways: The earphones look like they will be dangling a bit, but that is not the case. The over-ear hooks are sturdy enough that you can even go for a very energetic run without fear that they will come loose or fall off. They don’t fit as snugly as bone conduction headphones but won’t fall out easily. The wind can be a bit disruptive during a high-speed cycling session, though. From the very beginning, Shokz has been a trailblazer in the realm of open-ear listening technology. Our dedication to innovation in this field has positioned us as a pioneering force in the industry. They sit securely outside the ear canal, with the soft plastic band wrapping over and behind the ear lobe. This makes them very secure as well. I wore them running, and they don’t budge. They are IP54 water-resistant, so sweat or light rain should be no problem. I never had either OpenFit earbud actually fall out, but the fact this felt possible at all isn't ideal for a set of earbuds I'd want specifically for exercising outdoors.

I’ve been quite impressed with this and the fact that the case can add further charge is good for long days out. They’re also more expensive than traditional sporty truly wireless earbuds with ear hook designs that have impressed us like the Soundcore Sport X10 and JBL Endurance Peak 3. They’re also supremely comfortable and sport a design with greater mainstream appeal than their headband-style bone-conduction stablemates. Overall I am enjoying the Openfits so far and it is a good step into a different market for you. I was impressed from the second I opened the box and set them up.
Audio is naturally the main talking point of any headphones, but with the OpenFit the conversation is a little different. The main selling point is that they are essentially anti- noise-cancelling. Odd, right? They’re intentionally designed to not impede your ear canal and therefore allow you to hear everything that’s going on around you. In a market where noise-cancelling technology is all the rage, this is an interesting move. But depending on how you look at it, it’s either the OpenFit's selling point or their biggest flaw. Earbuds. They’re ubiquitous in offices, on busy streets, at homes … you name it. But, I’ve never been one to buy in. The majority of earbuds sit in your ears. And apparently, I’m a little sensitive. I find almost anything in my ears uncomfortable for more than short stints. Handling calls is pretty solid on the whole, but much like bone conduction headphones, the quieter the environment the better the performance. The AI smarts Shokz includes will benefit those on the other end of the call, but if you’re using them in louder environments they’re still going to suffer for volume. When using them outside, like other Shokz headphones, you often need to get them up loud to get the best out of them. It’s still about finding a balance between your sound and noise around you, and it depends on how much sound you’re competing with. If you’re out on a quiet walk it works pretty well. Head out for a run in a busy part of town, and it’s more challenging to deliver good results.
