About this deal

A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. Recently brought together in a single book, this delightful collection of short stories follows Hamish and Mirren, and their life together in a quiet farmhouse on the shores of a loch in Scotland. With talking sea urchins, hungry fairies and grumpy witches, this is a taste of folkloric Scotland, full of magic and lyricism.

Reading to the class without showing the pictures however, does not work very well because there is little or no description in the book itself. Her depiction of rural Scottish life is nostalgic for anyone who knows it first hand, and enticing for those who don’t. This true story of a loyal wee Skye terrier, who refuses to leave his adored master’s grave in Edinburgh, is truly touching. Burns Night has now been celebrated in Scotland for several centuries and if you ever have the good fortune of being invited to a traditional Burns Supper, I urge you to go along and embrace the experience. Many of our bed and breakfast guests have heard of haggis but are not quite sure what it is and what it’s made of.

M. Barrie (Peter Pan) and Kenneth Grahame (The Wind in the Willows) all hail from this beautiful country? Ben Nevis is the UK’s highest mountain at 1345m (4413 feet) and attracts thousands of hikers, trekkers and mountaineers each year hoping to summit this iconic peak.

He lives in the Scottish highlands, but once a year it becomes hairy haggis-hunting season and he must escape those pesky Haggis Bashers to avoid becoming dinner! To tease children, or the innocent traveller, a Scots person will jokingly describe haggis as being a small, hairy, mythical creature that roams the Scottish hills. Other enticing factors may be our hot tub and honesty bar, both well-deserved treats after an epic hike or climb!
