About this deal

It is the most unique gin I have ever tasted, It's a "I can't quite get my head around it" type of gin. Nordés has a truly unique character as far as premium gins go, made possible by ingredients which grow wild in Galicia and capture the essence of the Atlantic. And the blue and white bottle which is rather striking, is designed to mimic the traditional porcelain products made in Galicia. With multi-faceted notes of cardamom, lemon peel and juniper, the Spanish gin delights the olfactory receptors of the epicurean in an instant.

To that they added 6 local botanicals, lemon verbena, bay leaf, mint, sage, eucalyptus, and Glasswort (a plant that grows along the seashore and in marshes and is also known as “pickle weed”). It’s important to highlight that there’s a real freshness to this gin, thanks to its Atlantic Ocean inspiration. The 6 local botanicals are essential in giving Nordés its unique aroma, which evokes the green freshness that is typical of Galicia. It is made in a small distillery in Vedra, close to Santiago de Compostela, with spirit from the local Albariño grape and 11 botanicals ingredients (6 from Galicia) including juniper, sage, samphire, tea, ginger and hibiscus giving a uniquely fresh and aromatic character.Given the intensity of the flavours, you can probably afford to make this a longer drink than usual, with three or four parts tonic to gin. This gin tastes especially good as a gin and tonic, but it is also a real pleasure when served pure. It would however go very well in a fruity variation on the martini, or in fact any fruity type of drink. If there is a gin this vaguely reminds of it’s Monkey 47 , not because they taste so much alike, but because they are both remarkably hard to pin down. Wine spirit, the soul of the gin, is produced by using Galician Albariño grapes, and this distillate is macerated with 11 botanicals, 6 which are native to Galicia, Samphire, Sage Bay, Lemon Verbena, Eucalyptus and Peppermint.

To further give the gin that authentic provenance, Nordés turned to botanicals native to the region – sage, laurel, verbena herb, eucalyptus and peppermint.

Nordés is the product of a discussion over a meal with three friends – a sommelier, a wine entrepreneur and a master distiller – who wanted to create a spirit that was true to the Galician region. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. With the Atlantic Galician Gin from the Spanish producer Nordés, a crystal clear gin flows into the swirled glass in your hand. With tonic, the journey is lengthened a little but the flavours aren’t much different from when tasted neat. I can not describe the aroma or the flavour, (although I could detect a hint of albarino) its Odd, weird, strange in a fabulous way, its an enigma in a glass! And just three weeks after I carried a bottle home, Nordes came to the States, not in a suitcase, but via distributors.

The recommended garnish is three white grapes, but it also works really well with sage and a liquorice stick/cardamom seeds. It makes some rocking gin and tonics, or better yet gin tonicas, and some classic cocktails, but it’s not a gin that will be a workhorse in terms of what you can successfully pair it with. That said, as I’m unlikely to repurchase anything I thought was less than very good to excellent, it would be by chance or at the request of a distiller who thought I rated them very unfairly - BUT even then, whatever you get will always be my honest opinion. Delicately perfumed, Nordes is a soft, sweet gin with the flavour of red fruit, sherbert and peaches. It features a world map, compass rose and all, with a red arrow coming in from the north Atlantic and pointing into Galicia, designed to mimic the route of the Nordes wind. To create a gin of true provenance, every aspect needs to speak to the region and Nordés complete their Galician gin with striking packaging. Delicately perfumed with 12 different Galician botanicals, including lemongrass, hibiscus and peppermint, Nordes is a soft, sweet gin with the flavours of sherbert, peaches and red fruits. It is not until the second moment that flavors of grape and wild berries develop in the mouth - a quality I appreciate most in Nordés. Overall, Nordes Atlantic Galician Gin is more like an exotic liqueur than a straight-up gin, but with so many varieties of the usual stuff out there, it’s nice to take an exotic departure.
