About this deal

Finally, note that on the outside of the buds you’ll see a new fabric-looking section. That’s what Jaybird calls their ‘WindDefense’ fabric, which aims to act like a dead-cat on a microphone, and reduce wind noises before they get to the mics. Both earbuds have mics in them, as each side can be used independently in a singular mode, as some people prefer only using one bud at a time for awareness reasons. The only downside to the design is that by focussing on fitness first, the earbuds are missing a few basic features. For starters, there’s no ambient sound mode – this is apparently due to the added weight the mics needed would bring. There’s also no Qualcomm aptX support, though given how rare the codec is on running headphones, this is hardly a surprise. The Vista have been designed from the ground up with runners and gym goers in mind Battery life The case also charges via USB-C, and can top-off your buds up to an hour’s worth of playing time in 5 minutes (the same as the Vista 1). Active Noise Canceling (ANC) is new to Vista 2, and I’m so happy to see this feature finally arrive because having noise canceling earbuds really improves the sound quality and immerses you in your music.

In my opinion, Vista 2 has the best audio quality of all Jaybird wireless headphones to date, including the original Vista, which was already impressive but ANC gives the Vista 2 the edge. Battery Life –Vista 2 now how less battery life (24 hours) than Vista due to the extra processing of the active noise canceling.

The Vista, Tarah and Tarah Pro offer the same waterproofing as the Vista 2, just without the dust resistance. The app makes it easy to see battery status but it's 8 hours from the earbuds (or 6 with ANC or SurroundSense mode) + two additional charges from the case (Image credit: Josh Ross) We cue up our running playlist on Qobuz, and first up is Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now. We switch our EQ preset to ‘Flat’, with no optional EQ alterations, thus enabling like-for-like musical comparison. Our personal preset did ease things off slightly through treble frequencies, which was pleasant to our ears. In this Jaybird Vista 2 review I go over the key features, and why they matter in the real world, what these Jaybird wireless earbuds are like for running, how they compare to the original Vista, where to buy them, an image gallery, and my final rating with pros and cons. They're not perfect, especially if you're on a budget, want best in class noise cancellation or you're looking for a long battery life. But they're a solid pair of all-rounder true wireless earbuds that make fantastic exercise companions. Also consider...

So, let’s start with SurroundSense. This is the mode that allows pass-through of sound (in other words, the mode you should use while training outdoors). It has two main options within it: Ambient noise level, and wind filtering level, you can adjust these as you see fit: A rating of IP68 means these earbuds are deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes. The most competitive price point and you can get more features at the same price. The reason to choose these is the secure fit. control buttons on full wireless models usually require pressure to activate the button which jams the headphone deeper into your ear or use too-sensitive touch controls, while the wired between the ears models have a control box that doesn’t need to be jammed into the ear.The only downside is that there’s only a single light on the charging case. It pulsates when you open the case or to signify charging, but there’s no visual indication gauge for battery life – although a soothing voice tells you the current percentage of charge left each time you put them in. Edwin Starr’s War starts playing and we notice a marginal deficiency in detail – the saxophones aren’t quite as full, detailed, or recognisable as horn instruments as they are via Cambridge Audio’s Melomania 1 true wireless in-ear headphones. It’s a small issue and one we wouldn’t notice in isolation, because the Vistas provide a pleasing, fun and musical sound overall. One of our favourite design features in the Vista earbuds, however, is their impressive IPX7 water resistance, which not only makes them super-rugged but will see them survive a drop in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. This doesn’t mean they’re suitable for swimming but it is a worthwhile feature for the accident-prone or those crazy people who like to exercise in the rain.

Nestled into the case next to each other are where you will see the earbuds. The indent for the buds is shallow and easy to clean with a magnetic charging connection. Like the magnet for the case, this has enough resistance that you'll need a purposeful movement to fish the buds out. Once you've extracted them though, you'll find they've added the adventure aesthetic to the earbuds with a "WindDefense" fabric outer. The earbuds do carry an IP68 rating, only IP54 for the case, that makes them washable but the fabric does hold water for a bit. For starters, they have a wealth of wing tip options. This makes it easy to get a solid seal and during testing they offered one of the most stable seals and fits I’ve ever had on a set of true wireless earbuds. While ballistics are not typically part of most iron-distance events, many of the other aspects of the list above are a normal part of endurance sports training and racing. Which again, is probably why Jaybird units are known to last a while. Now, unfortunately, there’s no Apple Find My integration here. I know Android users don’t care about that, but for iOS users I was really hoping we’d see Find My UWB integration like on Belkin’s Soundform Freedom True new earphones. That’d be amazeballs here. And I think realistically, going forward, it’s gotta be standard in this category for anyone that’s not a phone maker (e.g. Samsung with their buds). It’s a massive selling point for iOS users, who realistically make up the majority of this particular market (and we all know Apple will undoubtedly launch Find My via UWB baked into the next iteration of AirPod Pro or PowerBeats Pro). Today Jaybird announced their new Vista 2 earbuds, which add a host of new features, including many aimed at the endurance sports crowd. From increased waterproofing and even military-spec resistance levels, to SurroundSense noise pass-through, better wind cancellation, rapid charging, and more. In theory, these new features would make it more appealing to athletes, including their sponsored cycling teams like L39ION, who they added today (and is also sponsored by Zwift for indoor training). If you’re tired of feeling your earphones slowly falling out of your ears when out running, the Vistas are a great solution. The sound isn’t quite the best that money can buy at this price, but the fit is among the best we've tested. Among the most comfortable earbuds on the market, and all but indestructible, Jaybird Vista are true contenders in the ‘best wireless fitness buds’ race.
