The Nextbase 522GW dash cam sits near the top of the company’s six-model range. Despite sharing many of the same specifications as the 422GW, it’s larger to make room for a bigger 7.6cm screen, which has a significantly higher resolution. I found it particularly hard to eject the microSD card from this camera, needing to resort to a match to push it in far enough to release. After a successful connection has been established then tap 'learn more' for Alexa, enable it and then select 'Open Alexa App' at the bottom of the screen.

The 622GW includes a variety of useful features and world firsts. Extreme Weather Mode provides a clearer image in misty or foggy conditions, which is crucial when you’re driving in the winter or at night. What3words provides your exact location within three square metres without the need for a data connection, helping emergency services to find you in the event of an accident. Gone is the big clunky mount of the 512GW. Replacing it is a mount that connects straight into the body of the camera using a magnetic attachment. It's very smart. The charging cable also plugs directly into the camera or the mount - there's the option for both. Open My Nextbase Connect and tap 'Connect to dashcam', as long as your camera is still displaying 'Connecting' you should be able to connect the two. Low winter sun is often a stern test for dash cams. The 522GW’s polarising filter helped improve footage when the sun was blasting through the front screen, cutting down glare and completely removing reflections of the cabin that otherwise would have interfered with the view out. However, I felt at times that the camera’s exposure was darker than I’d like.
