In Charlie Higson's second novel in The Enemy series, titled The Dead (2010), Bam tells Greg, "I grew up in the country, you see, always out yomping 'round the fields. Thirty years on, domestic and international opinion is more divided than ever about the purpose of the Falklands War.

The Yomper 225Y Rustler is similar to the Bergen but without the extended load bed and with the lift kit only optional. Yomping' was revealed by the journalist Charles Laurence in 1982 as the word which the Royal Marines used to describe carrying heavy loads long distances on foot.Looking for an off-road capable utility vehicle but concerned modern pickups are too big for your requirements? Ian Gardiner left the Royal Marines in 2001 in the rank of brigadier; his first book, In the Service of the Sultan: A First Hand Account of the Dhofar Insurgency was described by the late Professor Richard Holmes as ‘one of the best books about soldiering I have ever read’.
