About this deal

The sofa needs to take command – with a wall behind, space in front, and allowing you to see the entrance from it. This is the key to unlocking the power of this ancient practice: once you understand the logic, your application of feng shui will work every time. I’ve been taking Mr Tan’s advice and moving things around in my apartment, and I’m feeling good results! Maybe it's because I lived for a year in a cheap apartment carved out of a Victorian mansion that I still managed to make livable that I find his analysis of awkward "flats" and redesigning them to be so fascinating. If it’s a side door backing onto an alley, decorate it with plants either side, or create a path signifying the entrance.

The tone of the book is less humorous and frenetic than Cliff Tan’s TikTok videos where he is known for sharing Feng Shui tips. You can stop it looking messy – put the tall things on the side, create negative (empty) space in front, use odd numbers of objects which go easier on the eye, and create clusters of colourful things together rather than spreading them around which can feel uneven if the rest of your colour scheme is neutral. I remember I used to obsess about the “baguas” of my home and think I needed to paint certain rooms certain colors to improve my life. More importantly, Cliff gives you the tools to apply feng shui yourself, whether you live in a dorm or a five-bedroom house.Though bedrooms can be passionate places, the main element should be earth, not fire, so prioritise this space as your sanctuary, a calming place to rest and recharge. In an increasingly cramped world, a modern guide to opening up your living space – and your life – using the ancient principles of feng shui. Definitely gave me some perspective on how to move my bedroom around (and the ambiance is totally different! But then I read the intro to this book and realized Modern Feng Shui is about feeling good in the space you’re in and making the most of what you have. The main door you use – the ‘mouth’ of your house – isn’t necessarily the property’s original one, so if you use your utility or side door more, that’s your main door which should be celebrated and respected.

An enjoyable and informative read that gave me clear ideas about how to rearrange my furniture and make the most out of my space. I found this author on TikTok and his videos were so helpful in explaining why some rooms feel cramped/uncomfortable - this book is a great reference! From choosing a home to redecorating old rooms, Feng Shui Modern helps us find harmony in the every facet of our lives – beginning with where we live them. Cliff remained in London, and now lives in a high rise flat in Clerkenwell with his Hungarian husband.Cliff has become an internet sensation with his videos demonstrating the principles of feng shui from chi (energy) to the command position – and he has put his wisdom into a book for the first time. We recently rearranged a room with some of info I learned from the book and it really worked out well! If you must have a chandelier, never place it over the sofa, it will feel threatening and spiky hanging over your head, try the coffee table instead. Menopause affects every woman, and yet so many approach it with shame, fear, misinformation or silence. tan explains all of the concepts and principles in a way that's very easy to understand, especially for those of us who don't know the cultural and historical contexts of the practice.
