About this deal

If you're still watching in vivid mode, and don't know how to set up your display, I strongly recommend that you at least get your TV in the correct mode, and get your black levels, contrast, and color setup properly. For items that are dispatched using our standard service, we ask that you wait 14 days from the date of dispatch before reporting any items as undelivered. Anything is possible and it's best to go in with limited expectations to avoid getting your hopes up which is exactly what I've been doing. House of the Dragon: The Complete First Season is a fantastic first season of television for introducing familiar Game of Thrones audiences to a whole new time period with a captivating cast and conflict that is difficult to tell where it will go due to the grey moralities of most of its characters. For my thoughts on the production, please consult my House of the Dragon: The Complete First Season 4K Blu-ray review.

The story is rich just as you would expect, and the buildup to the big events coming is handled very well, with the first season only setting the tone and placing the pieces on the boards yet doing it in a very compelling way. Seeing as House of the Dragon takes places 200 years before that I really wouldn't be getting your hopes up. Some features only scratch the surface and can be repetitive with the same soundbites being used, but overall you get a ton of intriguing insight into House of the Dragon‘s development. Two others of note are Eve Best and Steve Toussaint as Rhaenys Targaryen and her husband Corlys Velaryon as something of wild cards with Best embodying Rhaenys’ wisdom, intelligence and ability to recognize the world and a person’s character for what they are. When she's not behind the keyboard typing away, she is travelling around the world, doing some yoga by the beach, weight lifting, and/or playing video games. It emphasizes the biggest draw isn’t necessarily the schemes for the Iron Throne, but the characters and how their motivations and viewpoints put their family and friendships to the test. House of the Dragon: The Complete First Season features a wealth of bonus features that aren’t seen much on physical media these days. House of the Dragon was easily one of my favorite shows of this year, so when given the opportunity to review the Season 1 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, I jumped at it. It’s a shame, though, there are not any audio commentaries on any of the episodes from Condal, Sapochnik, Martin or the cast.

There are bonus features on both the 4k Blu-rays and 1080p Blu-rays, although only on discs one and two. It means that you're watching it (almost) with the colors and lighting that the color graders were using. With a native 4K source gleamed from cinema-grade LF cameras and what will likely be cinema-grade Dolby Atmos audio, it should be reference-grade demo material in the war scenes. A New Reign (HD; 3:09) is another brief piece featuring interviews with showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J.Unfortunately, there are no deleted scenes anywhere on these discs, and neither are the “Next Episode” trailers or “Inside the Episode” minidocs after each episode on HBO and HBO Max. There are moments in this show that are as good as any theatrical feature film in the genre, and so the bigger your TV or projection the better to enjoy the imagery. Giant Targaryen statues stand in the throne room while the Iron Throne literally stretches out with more melted down swords or dragon skulls are placed with a religious-like reverence, something much different to the original series. of the premise of House of the Dragon, the hugely anticipated prequel to HBO's now iconic Game of Thrones.

It seems foolish not to include this miniseries with special features since they offer so much insight into the series. Fortunately, House of the Dragon exceeded expectations with a very strong first season that focused on its characters and the changing dynamics between them as the game of thrones is played within the Targaryen dynasty. There’s some great depth at what they were looking for in terms of casting, how to differentiate it from Game of Thrones and the filming locations, including the construction of the Red Keep which is just one giant set with multiple levels and rooms, showing Rhaenyra’s ascent to the Queen’s room in episode six wasn’t achieved through some visual trickery, but by actually following Emma D’Arcy from one room in the set to another. This was definitely a missed opportunity, because deleted scenes have been one of the most desired elements of owning physical media. For the week that ended on December 24th, Paramount Home Media Distribution's Top Gun: Maverick topped both the the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts for the eighth week in a row, tying Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Frozen, which was on top for .
