About this deal

The wealthy Dame Alice fled abroad, but her less fortunate associates, particularly Petronilla, had to stay and face the music. Petronilla was brutally tortured. Other birthmarks or moles might be symbols you carry with you as sacred dedication to a specific god or goddess OR to witchcraft in general (like a triple moon, rune, etc.) They also indicate past lives in specific countries, for example a birthmark that resembles Australia or South America. In addition, birthmarks in the same place as other family members may indicate magical bloodlines. PLEASE NOTE! Although Diana has untangled 3 knots, there’s still lots more to do. Now understanding the essence of this spell-making, Diana conjures the Rowan Tree again but this time a blazing phoenix bursts into her stomach and dissolves.

There’s nothing in this book that warrants anything harsher than a PG rating. With that said, I would say a reader as young as 10 could read this, though the length of the book might be intimidating for a younger reader. I would feel completely comfortable letting any age really read this. 🤷‍♀️ Petronilla de Meath (c. 1300-1324) was probably the first person in the British Isles to be legally executed for witchcraft. Read more about: British History The life of Matthew Hopkins, the opportunistic 'Witchfinder General'Indeed, most of those accused of witchcraft almost certainly wasn't guilty of anything of the sort. Instead, their treatment at the hands of men, and the rationales used by those men indicate that the oppression of witches was somehow symbolic of the oppression of women in general, of women's sexuality, and of sexuality in general. I hate to sound Freudian, but I really do think that in this case, the assertions by celibate men about the alleged sexual obsessions of witches are really a clear case of projection.

Yes. But there’s really no use to using it in the classroom. There’s nothing you could discuss except maybe the history of the curse...maybe it could be used in a fairy tale unit in middle school, and you could discuss the problems Merry has with being a witch. Why she fights it so much. There are some LGBT points for Leo as he is a gay character that has to hide his sexuality, but that also isn’t explored in-depth either. Extra digit: an extra toe or finger nearly always meant a witch in past centuries and some believe still so todayI would have been reading the book anyway, as my sister brought it. I always take her views of books with a pinch of salt, but she said this was a good one. It wasn’t her favourite book, but she came to really enjoy it. In fact, I ended up listening to far too many exclamations of enjoyment as she worked her way through the book. I was told to read it as soon as she was done. I considered leaving it for a while, yet the whole fairy-tale thing convinced me to do as my sister asked.
