About this deal

Introduced in the new season of Warcry, Reactions are things that can be done in certain circumstances, but always during the enemy turn. They cost one action, so they can be used only by fighters that have not activated yet or are waiting. There are 3 universal reactions and one specific to each warband: Has an interactable warscroll ability, which requires you to get dangerously close (9″ range) and works on a 3+, giving it a not super reliable ability while the unit itself will die to an angry squint coming from most anything in the game in retaliation.

Ultimately the book is full of baffling disparities like this one and even with the book’s good units they don’t all add up to something that feels competitive. The army wants to survive long enough to generate Depravity but has no way to protect itself and its units costs more than comparable units in other books that have built-in defensive capabilities. They also want to do “enough damage” without killing you, but that damage output is less than what you get in other books for the same cost, and they have no way to stop themselves from killing your units. So who are the winners in this book? Well, what are the units that have acceptable rules and probably correctly pointed? The ones that jump out are:

Hedonites of Slaanesh.

Ellarr: At 190 points they were competing with the cheaper Harridans for ‘elite’ infantry in Nighthaunt, and I tended to go with Harridans because they had a nice little defensive ability and typically did more damage. Now that the Revenants have lost their full reroll to hits ability, the comparison gets even uglier and I don’t see a place for Revenants in any of my lists until the new book is out. They still have retreat and charge which is obviously great, but the effectiveness of this unit has been significantly diminished. Archers are definitely an interesting option and worth their cost more in comparison to the cavalry counterpart allowing you to have few of them to cover the gaps in your roster. Five Crossboos won’t really have any impact on the game, but bumping them up to ten will take up one of your precious reinforcement points and cost 190 points, more expensive than the excellent Namarti Reavers or even the continually problematic Lumineth Sentinels. This, dear reader, is not a good unit. If you were desperate for ranged firepower, consider Chainghasts. Or, better yet, consider another army. In the end it will depend on your personal preference, but you have several options available. Apart from the Lord of Pain ability or the one from the Blissbrew Homonculus, there are no other synergistic abilities, so when dividing the warband in the 3 groups you could have completely heterogeneous groups each specialized in something. Pros and cons of the Slaanesh Sybarites There are many powerful and versatile units across the Hedonites of Slaanesh faction, and some more, in particular, are about to see some significant benefits from the new edition. Sigvald, Prince of Slaanesh

I bought a Herdstone and painted it before reading the rules, oh well it can at least be used as scenery or I could make a pure Beasts force in the future I guess. This does however mean the Knight of Shrouds is even more pointless than it was before, as these guys do what he does for free. We expect a rewrite for the KoS on foot when it comes time for the battletome on that basis. And yet, for all their supplication and sacrifice, the Hedonites find their master’s throne empty, for the God of Excess lies imprisoned between the realms by the sorcery of its aelven nemeses. It is for this reason that roving bands of Slaanesh’s faithful march from realm to realm, seeking out any information they can find that might aid in their god’s release – and slaughtering all who would dare get in their way. Orangey/Brown fur and Yellow fabric (it’s not very visible on this guy but it’s on the shield) complimented the blue skin quite nicely and I’d finally found a really easy way to paint Orangey Yellow (Yellow ink with a Fuegan Orange wash, thank me later). I didn’t just paint one Gor though I painted his friends too. They coat their arrowheads in Blissbrew toxin, which overwhelms the senses of those they hit, unravelling an enemy’s carefully laid battleplans as their forces are overcome with pleasure and pain. It’s very distracting.

Slaanesh has been imprisoned since the Age of Myth by the Aelven Pantheon (Tyrion, Teclis, Malerion and Morathi) in the Hidden Gloaming, a sub-realm between Hysh, the realm of Light, and Ulgu, the Realm of Shadow. But where did the whip come from? Oh yeah, I bought the Start Collecting: Daemons of Slaanesh and Painbringers kits too, so I could add more bits to the mix. Using these kits, my next task was to find out how to introduce the Daemons into the mix without blowing the colour palette up even more. I started out with the Seekers and painted them in the Beasts of Chaos colours: I also painted up some Ungors using the same scheme the next day, I bought the BoC Start Collecting box so I might as well, right?
