About this deal

That’s the first reason we’re looking at the guide. The second reason we’re taking a peek at it here is that it features an introductory army list. This is the first time GW have ever done something like this (as far as I know at least, and I’m happy to be corrected if mistaken). Only able to carry six models, the Land Raider Achilles is barely a transport – enough for a command squad or a unit of veterans, but that’s not really why you’re here anyway. As with the special weapons, the weapons are matched to the 5 distinct arm pairs/poses of the MkVI kit, but as the shoulder-mounted missile launchers come with their own set of arms, they should be compatible with any of the 5 bodies.

Heavy Support Squads provide the Legiones Astartes with mobile, infantry-portable firepower sufficient to bring down hordes of enemy troops or smash armoured vehicles apart with withering hails of fire, combining devastating armaments with all the flexibility of a footsoldier. Heavy flamers project a roaring torrent of burning promethium capable of incinerating infantry and flushing foes from cover, while multi-meltas reduce enemy tanks to molten slag with a flash of energy, and plasma cannons unleash volatile blasts of superheated matter. Once you’ve got your turret gun sorted you need to choose what to take on your sponsons. Broadly you can decide based on if you’re expecting your targets to be infantry or armour. If you’re armour/dreadnought hunting then throw those lascannons on. At 10 points for two they’re an absolute steal. If you’re doing dedicated infantry hunting though heavy bolters are good if you’re fighting at range or heavy flamers if you’re expecting to have to drive up close and personal to dissuade chargers. If you want to go all out you can throw something nasty on the pintle, but honestly most of the options just aren’t worth paying the points – keep these guys focused and lean, because they’re probably blowing up soon enough. Legion Sicaran Squadron (and Variants)Let me explain. As we know, there are a lot of miniatures in this set. There are also a lot of alternative builds and optional extras for the vast majority of the models. Most of these optional extras or variant builds have been squashed into as little space as possible, likely in an effort to keep the guide concise and easy to follow. Forge World is also supporting the new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy *** with a range of items – first up, even more accessories to make your Legions look the best they can. Sons of Horus MKVI Shoulders Pads and Heads The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness is meant to be played. Whilst miniature painters will delight in the mountain of new, colourless plastic that they can bring to life with their acrylics, there’s so much stuff in this box designed to get you gaming. Dice It’s a very long build, too. Whilst it’s not that complicated for the most part, a lot components go into assembling this thing. Because of this, it’s easy to overlook one or two as you go through the guide. As always, make sure you take your time and read everything carefully.

First up are the two Legiones Astartes army books – one for Loyalists and one for the Traitors.* Each book includes the profiles for shared units, from heroic Praetors to armoured Contemptor Dreadnoughts, as well as weapons, special rules, and guides to building your Legiones Astartes army. We’ll have a true-to-form, FauxHammer-style, up-close and personal look at every part of this set in a moment. First off, here’s everything you get: The instructions do not help either. So many instructions are rammed into one A4 side, which makes some steps very unclear – such as, for example, how you apply the tail of the helmet plume to the head. The build guide tries to do too much in too little space, which made building this figure very frustrating. This is a challenging, yet extremely rewarding kit. Veteran builders will have an absolute field day with this one. The Miniatures – Round-UpThe Contemptor Dreadnought is a striking model. A fusion of futuristic Warhammer grimdarkness and 80s sci-fi, the Contemptor Dreadnought looks as if it’s stamped its way out of an episode of Doctor Who and been equipped with enough firepower to single-handedly wipe out the Daleks once and for all. In this mini-series we’ll be taking a look at all of the units that every Space Marine army can field, how they operate, how you might want to equip them and what you want to point their guns/combat weapons at on the table. Never fear! The sprues for the MKIII Space Marines contain five sets of armoured vambraces on each frame, which are designed to be fixed onto the arms in the two heavy weapon upgrade kits.* The Praetor with Power Sword’s axe-wielding compatriot – or adversary, depending on how you paint the box – is easier to assemble.
