About this deal

Everything about this little box of joy is pure, unadulterated, indulgent joy. In the last week, it felt like Parks was being played constantly and finding something that all four of us rave over is unusual. Parks In Summary Gain a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics of visitor enjoyment using powerful heatmap tools that will let you precisely tweak their experience to your benefit. Another big plus for me is the gentle competitive style of the game – whilst you may collect a badge before someone else who was planning and saving resources to collect that badge, it doesn’t feel malicious and those resources are likely to be useful elsewhere. Whilst it may string a little, it’s clear that all players are working on collecting badges and so doesn’t have the ‘take that’ element. Beautiful Nature You may buy one of the face-up Gear cards on the board by paying Sunshine tokens equal to its cost [in the upper right of the card].

The end of the trail will allow players to either reserve a Park, visit a Park, or buy gear, cards that can offer a one-off bonus, as well as an on-going perk. There are bonuses for those that finish the trail first, netting additional resources once they finish that current trail. You use these to form the trail that you will take. There is a start and end trail chevron and between these, you shuffle and place your various trail markers. Essentially places to put your hikers to gain resources, buy gear or visit parks. At the end of the season, you clean up, add another location and deal the tiles into the trail again.Gear gives ongoing abilities for the rest of the game, and some also have an instant action, denoted by a lightning bolt. Good play in PARKS is thus very much about knowing when to speed up and slow down on the trail to snaffle opportunities when they come your way. You’ll need to balance the time it takes to make use of your canteens and resource-swapping opportunities, with the flexibility it offers for the ever-changing makeup of cards on offer. You can also grab bonus points by taking photos in some spaces which cost two resources but then give you the camera. While you hold it, photos only cost one and you can take an extra snap at the end of each season. Knowing the right moment to steal the camera is yet another timing-based tactical decision you’ll need to add to your growing arsenal. So double-knot your laces and fill up your canteen with water (or something stronger, we won’t judge). Leave the map at home. Let’s go for a wonderful, meandering hike along the trails within these areas of natural beauty. Join me as we learn how to play Parks! How Do You Win? The sun token is in essence the timer for the game. As players reach the trail end the sun token will move one space to the left (trailhead). When a player reaches trail end they either gain the bonus the sun token is pointing to or perform the action on the trail tile. It then moves one space left and when it moves off a trail tile, it is flipped to its night time side. Game End

Each player is given their canteen, their hiker meeple, one of each resource and one secret badge card that only they will be able to obtain during the game. Final Score: 4.5 Stars – An excellent game that helps set the benchmark for production values, bolstered by its fun and accessible gameplay. Pay the cost shown on any face-up Park, or one you have reserved, to gain the indicated number of points, and the card is placed vertically in your player area, refilling the board if necessary. You have two Hikers, remember. Once your first hiker reaches the Trail End, you get to flip your Campfire token alight again. (So once again, if you want, you can visit an occupied tile). When it comes to moving your Hikers, you can move one on one turn, and the other on a later turn. Or, you could move one again and again – the choice is yours. Once both of your Hikers reach the Trail End, you’re done for the Season. Though the components aren’t necessarily element-proof, I can definitely envision this being played whilst camping or after a long hike, in the comfort and warmth of a fire-lit cabin (or pub!) Its travel friendly size means it has joined my list of holiday games. My Thoughts Nonetheless, the game arrived and I wasn’t sure what to expect so perhaps it was the artwork on the cards or the wooden counters which arrived in their own tree-like dispenser that made me instantly fall in love with Parks.
