GlenDronach has made a great reputation with its sherry matured whisky, offering quality drams with age statements. Sherry sweetness, dark fruit leather, brown sugar, x-mas spice, citrus peels and some bits of orchard fruit.

Proper, dark, warming sherry-matured whisky that's absolutely top notch, but lacks a certain je ne sais quoi for a higher rating.I found the Allardice to have intense sherry sweetness, right off, dark chocolate, orange, raisins, caramel, and at the very end a massive hit of maple syrup. I’ve made a Godard reference with GlenDronach before (with 15YO Revival), so I’ll continue with that theme since there’s a title that fits with this sherry matured whisky. Anything that receives a 5+ is one of my personal favorites, and something that I save for rare occasion (unless its cheap and then I drink a lot of it).

Matured in the finest Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, this sublime richly sherried malt is truly unforgettable. Based on the logic above (and on the exact closure date of the distillery, which I don’t know), the GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice I’m reviewing today should be 23 years old, and maybe even 24 years. But they also invariably mention many other qualities such as cherries, plums, a bit of coffee, dark/milk chocolate, brown sugar, choc cake/brownies, walnut bread, fudge, tobacco, and leather.

One final little tidbit that might not be news for you, but the GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice is named after the founder of the distillery, James Allardice. I've often seen people comment that the GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice is their favourite of the distillery's core range. The Highlander was matured completely in Oloroso sherry casks, and was originally released in 2009 following the distillery changing hands back in 2008.
