About this deal

This is another short story, ideal for younger readers, that chronicles the difficulties faced by a young girl as she struggles to adapt to her new living situation, with her mum’s new partner and his children. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I thought that Lizzie finding solice in her new great-grandmother and playing with her collectors dolls was a sweet addition to the book. He has produced over sixty of his own titles, including much-loved favourites Ketchup on Your Cornflakes and Shark in the Park.

Lizzie is about to move in with her mum's boyfriend and two children, but due to a past experience with a violent stepfather, Lizzie becomes mute as she expects the new boyfriend's 'nice guy' act to drop just like the other one did. Lizzie is experiencing the change in a new environment when she moved in to live with her step dad and his sons. I cannot abide the author's child abuse-excusing, fatphobic, internalised misogyny-filled, and sometimes ableist books for children. Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. In 2002 Jacqueline was awarded the OBE for services to literacy in schools and from 2005 to 2007 she was the Children’s Laureate.

Again I love the fact that JW is tackling sensitive issues that young children may be facing themselves, and again, in this book, she hits on the subject of a parent getting a new partner and then the child having to deal with things no longer being the same. Lizzie is is upset because she dosen't want to move in so she try's to stay quit burt will she be able to stay quit or not. As the fourth Children's Laureate (2005-2007) she promoted the importance of sharing books, and reading aloud together. She’s completely fed up with having to join a new family, and nothing can convince her to speak to them. Then one day a member of her new family turns out to be even more stubborn than Lizzie, and things begin to change.

I absolutely adored her books when I was younger and I think every child should read her books growing up.All about learning how to adapt to a new situation and family setting, we see Lizzie grow comfortable and happier especially when she's allowed to express herself properly too with someone who understands and accepts her interests, it was serious, dealing with important topics effecting people everyday in life. page 15 (Lizzie is talking about her youngest stepbrother, Jake, who plays with thirteen Beanie Babies and likes tea parties and knitting). And it follows Lizzie as she is able to come out of her shell with a little bit of help and encouragement from Great-Gran, along with a helping dollop of unfortunate events that mean she has to step up to the plate.
