About this deal

News of Lucy’s album and book come just weeks after the ‘Roots’ singer announced details of her 2023 headline tour of the UK! You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The heartfelt ‘Everything Changes’ for example sees Lucy look back on the past decade, while ‘Bodies’ reflects upon her journey of working through image issues and learning how to build a healthy relationship with her body.

But in opening the LP, Lucy goes right back to the beginning with a throwback reference to Last Night (Beer Fear) – the song that made her a household name after she performed it on ‘The X Factor’ stage in 2012. It makes me laugh that only now, when I had a top five album with my last album as well, there’s been quite a lot of attention and people ask about longevity and how to stay in the industry. What is more, writing the book has put a renewed spotlight on how different it is to put music to words and come up with melodies to describe feelings. Some of the topics tackled by Lucy are incredibly difficult and tend to be evaded within the media, but she’s unafraid to explore them and her transparency continues to serve her well – from ‘Cocaine’, which appears to tell the tale of a relationship breakdown due to drugs, to ‘Caroline’.Last but certainly not least is ‘ Cost of Living’ – a melodious track that features a combination of vocals and spoken word from Lucy, as she runs through the shared experience of being a human being in the 21st century. We carry a broad range of CDs and vinyl (7”/12” singles and LPs) and specialise in indie, alternative, rock, punk, metal plus a few other genres. We interviewed Spraggan in 2021 as last album Choices was about to chart at her highest ever position (5) and she said of fellow 2012 X Factor cast member Ella Henderson who was charting with Tom Grennan duet Let’s Go Home Together which couldn’t be further in tone from Lucy’s own Sober: ‘It’s a great song.

A hauntingly beautiful tribute to Lucy’s late friend, Caroline Flack, ‘Caroline’ addresses the scrutiny that comes with life in the public eye. When I ask her if that also means people feel safe or take the liberty to confide in her, she tells me she’s been used to that since forever. Because if more people bought your album that week than they did a different album, you are literally rated out of ten for that. Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Now, more than a decade later, those are still two words that immediately spring to mind when chatting with Spraggan about her new album. Perhaps these songs are what help other people find their balance or the fact that Spraggan is openly talking about her own mental health struggles and more recently, her experience with sexual assault.
