About this deal

Their unique and personal insights are coupled with extensive photography of the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World in Giza and the Pyramids. What it does is to vividly bring to life a particular period which many people are very interested in. Many people would probably recognise him for the way he was shown in Egyptian art; he was shown in a very strange way, with an elongated skull, and of course he subsequently became famous for being Tutankhamun’s dad. Although this is a slim volume, it’s packed with fascinating details about some of the biggest names in Egyptian history from pharaohs male and female to brilliant architects and disgruntled farmers. The book provides a trip through the golden ages of archeaology in Egypt, from the discovery of the Rosetta Stone in 1799 to the Golden Mummies in 1999.

One cannot help but appreciate the central role these gods and goddesses played in the lives of the Egyptian people for over three-fifths of recorded history. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Egyptian History and has broadcast on radio and TV in the UK and abroad, including BBC’s ‘Horizon’ and Channel 4’s ‘Private Lives of the Pharaohs’. Perfectly combining Nick Reeves’ authoritative text with lavish illustrations, it manages to create a real sense of adventure while showing how Egyptology developed as a subject, explaining why we know what we know about ancient Egypt – and what we don’t! The book is beautifully illustrated with many rarely seen photographs of sites that are not commonly featured, making the reading experience visually stunning. For those who are interested in Egyptian mythology or just love great storytelling, this book is a must-read. The book includes an engaging mix of visual features, including comic strips, maps and full page spreads and also has bonus activities at the end include hieroglyphic codes to crack – a winning combination for reluctant readers and those who enjoy fact-finding in a story. This is a beautiful and unusual hands-on text that will engage and enchant pupils and teachers alike. With flaps to lift on every page and vibrant illustrations of Egyptian scenes, there's plenty to keep little hands busy and curious minds at work, as topics include mummification, pharaohs, culture and mythology.

It looks stunning; with its black cover and golden spine, and is packed with stories from Egypt, which have been retold in a way accessible to younger readers. Magic was at the heart of ancient Egyptian culture – from health and medicine to the Book of the Dead. Additionally, this book provides interesting facts about Egyptian culture, including pyramid building, mummification, and even the worshiping of cats. Author Jean Menzies has organised the stories into categories, which also helps the target audience to navigate the book.Whether you’re a fan of Egyptian mythology or just looking to learn more, this rich treasury is sure to be a fascinating read!

An excellent university textbook for undergraduates for its clarity and breadth of information, Ikram’s book covers not just the physical ancient Egyptian world, but its historiography, from the first ‘Egyptologist’ Khamwaese to Greek fascination with the region, plus the Crusades and European travellers who satisfied Europe’s grandest museums and humblest collectors with their antiquities dealing. He is a master of citing the current debates on the many topics he discusses, which allows the reader to follow up, were they to have further questions.

It has now been updated with more than 50 new photographs and line drawings that beautifully represent the gods and goddesses in all their glory. With a stunning gold foiled and embossed cover featuring three 'jewels', and with its creation overseen by TGH James, ex keeper of Egyptian Antiquities at the British Museum, Egyptology is Emily Sands' lavish 1926 scrapbook journal of a lost expedition. Everything they publish is available to download freely in PDF form or to read online anywhere in the world, without the need to log in. It is something that I have also tried to bring out in my new book, because I think we often look at Ancient Egypt through rose-tinted spectacles: we are wowed by the pyramids and the temples, and we don’t often stop to think about the human misery that accompanied these great civilisations.

This superb book takes you into the world of the Ancient Egyptians through the artefacts left behind and shines a light on some of the most fascinating mysteries of the time by focusing on historical sourcework. As opposed to your next book, Ancient Egypt: Anatomy of a Civilisation, which is slightly more complicated, because it represents a reassessment of Ancient Egypt – right? The reason I recommend this book is that it uncovers the mysteries and secrets of one of the world’s most fascinating civilizations. To put it bluntly, 95% of the population of Egypt worked on the land, and for three months of every year the land was underwater when the Nile flooded. Mostly excavated by Petrie during many seasons of campaign in the last years of the 19th and early decades of the 20th century, they now reside in the Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology at University College, London. As the world's first nation-state, the history of Ancient Egypt is above all the story of the attempt to unite a disparate realm and defend it against hostile forces from within and without.
