About this deal

Sunday Times bestselling author of the Evan Smoak thrillers Orphan X, The Nowhere Man, Hellbent, Out of the Dark, Into the Fire, Prodigal Son, Dark Horse and The Last Orphan. Just when I thought the Orphan X novels couldn’t get any better, Gregg Hurwitz takes the series to an even higher level.

If you were to go by what you find in novels these days, the entire world is populated by super-trained assassins and spies who can take on any odds no matter how stacked against them the odds are. Martin's Press, and Macmillan Audio for providing me with complimentary electronic copies of this book.

In The Last Orphan Evan’s pardon has come into question, because as we know, he hasn’t exactly lived up to his end of the bargain he made with the President. Here, the conceit is that Evan Smoak (aka Orphan X) is such a former assassin, plucked from foster care by a CIA-type agency and trained in secret to save the world one assassination at a time.

It is this dichotomy, the deadly assassin who has no fear and the man who fears living in normal society , is what makes Orphan X so relatable. I've always thought that one reason for Tom Clancy 's success was the endless detail he provided about military hardware, and that the James Bond novels benefited from the loving attention Ian Fleming devoted to the martinis, expensive cars and gorgeous women he so admired. Like the previous 7 books, The Last Orphan is a topnotch thriller with literally something for everyone. Will Evan take the President's offer and eliminate Luke Devine or does Evan think his principles are more important and let Luke walk away? The author has developed Evan's character in every book and now it seems he is fearful of losing his edge. The last survivor of the off-the-books programme that raised and trained him, Evan Smoak was sent around the world to do his government's dirty work.

I enjoy Hurwitz's writing and I am really glad that he didn't try to continue to make the situations Orphan X finds himself in get progressively worse.A dark prologue follows horny young lamb Johnny Seabrook to a tryst that turns into a bloody slaughter. Thanks Gregg Hurwitz, always excited to read a new Orphan book, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this exciting story. I read Evan's dialogue in Scott Brick's voice in my head, (LOL, but really) and I enjoyed reading this just as much, if not more than I would have had I listened. The motivation for Smoak to do as he’s told is supposedly the promise of a pardon from the President. I have read all of the books in this series, and have enjoyed each of them, some a little more than others.

When he remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate in their times of trouble, Evan found himself slowly back on the government's radar. Orphan X may think of himself of a loner, but his tight inner circle are some of the most interesting (and possibly homicidal) people around. The closest thing he had to family or an associate, a sixteen-year-old hacker named Joey Morales, had taken an open-ended leave to explore her independence, whatever the hell that meant. A new Orphan X book became available on NetGalley and any reservations I might have had went out the window. We are—well, ask Bigfoot, as Brooks does in this delightful yarn, following on his bestseller World War Z (2006).Maybe, but the sasquatches whom the volcano displaced contributed to the statistics, too, if only out of self-defense. I always wonder what will happen next and in this one I was a little surprised, in a good way, with part of the ending. And five of his colleagues, found in various states of disassembly in a barn at the foot of the Námafjall Mountains. The next round of drinks arrived for the ladies—a vomitous concoction sugared up with pink grapefruit, elderflower cordial, soda, and topped with a cherry tomato.
