I would say this is better for a slightly younger audience - my son loves it from 1 and still loves it at 2. Her other books include The Hospital Dog illustrated by Sara Ogilvie, The Christmas Pine illustrated by Victoria Sandøy and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures illustrated by Lydia Monks.Kindly butterfly is keen to help, but they don't seem to be having much luck and keep finding the wrong animals! Julia Donaldson has written some of the world's best-loved children's books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which together have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over one hundred languages. I enjoyed drawing all the different kinds of animals and the jungle vegetation - which I kind of made up (unlike Henry Rousseau when he did his jungle paintings, who went to the botanical gardens).

This story was accepted by the publisher at the same time as The Gruffalo, and at first they thought they might find a different illustrator for it. I can’t imagine that anyone other than Axel could have given such character and humour to the animals which the butterfly mistakes for the monkey’s mum.
