About this deal

The whimsical steampunk-ish illustrations are brimful of charming details that could keep any adult or child reader engrossed for hours -- a truly inspired mix of whale, fish, bird, and ship imagery. My class of 5 year olds absolutely loved ‘The Barnabus Project’ (and I loved engaging with a story that was emotionally moving) so had to try something else by the Fan Brothers. There are certainly some beautiful illustrations within the book, but they're not all as magical as what's depicted on the outside.

Finn travels across oceans meeting wonderful ocean creatures, passing islands made of books, climbing on giant shells and eventually floating up to where the ocean meets the sky where he sees a familiar face watching over him. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated!Lincoln Children’s Books) On his grandfather’s ninetieth birthday, Finn awakens to the sea, and memories of his grandfather. I have been fortunate enough to follow at least a part of Terry and Eric Fan's ( the author/illustrators of Ocean Meets Sky) Journey on social media. The Fan Brothers are significant, award-winning author-illustrators and children can continue to enjoy their books following their studies of this text.

Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. My plan was to visit my country later this year to see him and my grandmother, but corona popped up, he passed, and I didn’t bother following through on plans to prepare to travel later on.Meticulous draftsmanship by the Fan brothers ( The Night Gardener ) gives the spreads genuine majesty.

Full of Gorgeous illustrations, this one is sure to captivate young readers, as they too, read and sail along, on this Magical Journey.A boy who misses his grandpa goes off on an fantastic boat ride to find the place his grandfather often spoke of, where the ocean meets the sky.

One part of the creative team - with his brother Terry Fan - known collectively as the Fan Brothers. Together they also illustrated The Darkest Dark, written by Chris Hadfield and Kate Fillion, and The Antlered Ship, written by Dashka Slater. I think the best way I can describe my belief in the Fan Brothers as author/illustrators might be to show you the video of my multiple purchases of their most recent book, Ocean Meets Sky. Born in Hawaii and raised in Toronto, he attended the Ontario College of Art and Design, where he studied illustration, sculpture and f ilm. Sentimental story, nice enough, but there's little there about Grandpa or the boy's relationship to him, really.Every time he looks out his window it's a constant reminder of the stories his grandfather told him about the place where the ocean meets the sky. It whisks him away on a magical adventure, eventually leading him to the place his grandfather talked about: where the ocean meets the sky. I probably shouldn't have judged a book by its cover, but I did, and that led to a bit of disappointment. Then there’s the hardback cover, which is actually one of those fabric hardbacks and is a dark blue that makes me think of the depths of the sea. And indeed, not really all that much if at all focussing (except for some textual reassurance if required) on the Fan brothers’ printed words but rather on their large and mostly glowingly luminous illustrations has made me not only appreciate but also absolutely love and cherish Ocean Meets Sky.
