The autobiography is not a laugh a minute, though it does contain a good smattering of amusing chat-show-type anecdotes.Carr never fitted in with the ribald banter of the factory floor, but nevertheless felt himself slowly becoming assimilated into the trivial workplace culture, where unauthorised staple-gun use can trigger a war of attrition. Carr teaches that smokers do not receive a boost from smoking a cigarette, and that smoking only relieves the withdrawal symptoms from the previous cigarette, which in turn creates more withdrawal symptoms once it is finished. He's become a bit of a camp icon, but doesn't bang on about being gay in this book, in fact reading about his own revealation that he was gay was very touching and amusing. So that smokers, when they light a cigarette are really trying to achieve a state that non-smokers enjoy their whole lives. It attracted more than 500 audition tapes, with the comic saying: ‘Some were heartwarming, some were just downright offensive, but there was one boy who really stood out from the rest.
