About this deal

Disclaimer: Whilst we work hard to provide correct information for products, all information displayed may not be 100% accurate or up to date. The Chemex coffeemaker is an elegant, one-piece, hourglass-shaped vessel made of high-quality, heat resistant glass. According to Chemex, the 6- and 8-cup versions are most popular, however (and we can certainly attest to that! Once you have brought the appropriate amount of water to a boil, remove it from the heat and allow it to stop boiling vigorously. Laura and James, grandchildren of the bowler hatted gentleman, now have the ropes firmly in their grasp; James as our resident Q Grader in the Bristol Roastery Headquarters, and Laura in London.

Made from heavy-walled heat-resistant glass, our flat-bottomed kettle will ensure a delightful boiling and brewing process. Optional Tip: We suggest using a burr grinder because it delivers a more consistent particle size, allowing for a more even extraction and fuller bodied cup of coffee. We recommend pairing it with the Hario Buono Pouring Kettle and Hario Drip Scales to ensure you have all the tools necessary for the perfect brew.

Not only is it a beautifully designed bit of kit (and has actually featured in the Museum of Modern Art) it also produces a really great clean and characterful coffee. It is not often that the world of science makes a splash in the world of design but thank goodness it has here. It's the perfect tool for helping you to enjoy a full-flavoured brew every time and a must-have for any coffee lover's kitchen.

Remove the wooden handle and continue to hand wash with warm soap and water, or place the coffeemaker securely in the dishwasher. Design: The Chemex is a glass carafe while the HARIO V60 is a ceramic, glass or copper funnel that sits atop a coffee cup or pitcher for brewing. Our coffee is at its optimum between day 7 to around day 30 after roast date and will be absolutely fine for up to 3 months. Inspired by a laboratory glass funnel and Erlenmeyer flask, the Chemex’s simple, yet unique design encourages excess air to escape from the bottom of the carafe, through a paper filter, allowing the coffee to filter at a perfect rate. After the grounds bloom, slowly pour the brewing water over the grounds while keeping the water level well below the top of the Chemex (quarter inch or more).Grind your coffee; pour hot water over coffee and it filters through the paper resulting a clean, delicious coffee. Designed in 1941 and still going strong today, the Chemex is one of the best (and most good-looking) ways to make and serve several cups of filter coffee at once.

The Chemex is housed in the MOMA permanent design collection —it also lives on most of our kitchen counters, too. Brewing with Hot Plate Deactivated: (This method can be used to make Iced beverages): Set switch to double line "II" A solid red light will appear below the word "Chemex®" found on the base plate.
