About this deal

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. Furthermore, because of your technicolour post of the other day, I found myself strangely - and utterly helplessly - drawn into purchasing an 8nr multicoloured pack of the same!

Maybe it's the broad nib or this particular nib or poor quality control in general (though I suspect it's the latter) but I constantly struggled with this pen. It’s a bit chatty but not squeaky and has a tiny bit of feedback though not enough to be distracting. I glued it back on and shaved down the ridge inside of the cap to reduce the pull needed to remove the cap. For someone new to italic nibs, the moderate flow will make writing more controlled so that’s a plus. Please also take time to read our post-Brexit information page if you are outside the UK to see what will happen now with tax and import duty.

Both barrel and cap are made from a sparkly black lacquered overlay onto probably a brass base with chrome plated fittings.

I can’t comment on the standard nib other than it’s a medium and very smooth but I quickly replaced it with the Niko G dip nib. I think it was in inner shoulders of the tines that were slightly exposed, as it seemed to want to tramline on strokes close to the vertical, and scratched on horizontal strokes.Without the cap, its about the same weight as a capped Lamy Al-Star, with the cap posted, its heavier than a Lamy Studio. There really are eight horses cavorting over a field and a poem in Chinese characters across the top. As you can see, there are plenty of things not to like about the Jinhao X750, with only a few positives.
