About this deal

had that surreal feel of Skellig, although obv very different, with eccentric characters and dreamlike anecdotes.

Three stars as i only read this book due to nostalgia etc and I love the story but it didn’t have the same magic about it that it had when I was 8/9 years old. The book is intended for Key Stage 2 English readers and aims to help teachers organise tasks which introduce children to a range of specific key reading skills as outlined in the reading PoS. Please consider converting them to full citations to ensure the article remains verifiable and maintains a consistent citation style.Mildly creased front endpaper, else near fine, in gilt-lettered green boards; in a very mildly age-toned, otherwise illustrated dust jacket with minor creasing and shelfwear. Several templates and tools are available to assist in formatting, such as reFill ( documentation) and Citation bot ( documentation). As an American, I can't help but feel insulted that the name of a famous American entertainer (Elvis) was chosen for the name of the dim-witted lummox that serves as the villain of the piece.

Krindelkrax by Philip Ridley is the book that was read with the year seven class I worked in last year. A funny school story with weird and wonderful characters by the award-winning author, Philip Ridley. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. But beneath the dark bricks and cracked pavements of Lizard Street lurks a monster: the mysterious Krindlekrax.

Later, Ruskin finds out from his drunken dad that everyone in Lizard Street was responsible for the monster getting into the sewers in the first place, and how it grew so big. I have been reading this with a group of children in my class at school, throughout reading they have commented several times about how good a story it is and how much they have enjoyed it. But for newly-fluent readers of about eight and up, who like action-based books, this could be a good choice. Ridley adapted Krindlekrax into a stage play, which premiered at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 2002.

I liked doing the different voices for the characters, the use of the grotesque and cruelty through humour plus the way the author tackles grief and our responses to it. Development on this film might have begun as early as 2001 because in June 2001 money was charged between Kennedy Mellor Ltd and the Children's Film and Television Foundation Limited for "All the company's rights title and interest in the literary and artistic work by philip ridley entitled "krindlekrax" including: treatment and screenplays". Krindlekrax was one of the books featured and appeared alongside such classics as Roald Dahl's Matilda and J. Found it particularly useful with year 3 as they could somewhat relate experiences in the book with their own experiences, and were then able to feel more empathetic towards the characters, particularly Ruskin.

The kids in my class were very excited when this book was inside the box that arrived from the local library. My brother was never really into reading, which is another reason why my Mum recommended it to me as it is popular with boys and engages them with reading.

Small and thin, with knock-knees, thick glasses, a squeaky voice, no one at Ruskin's school believes he's capable of anything - all except for Ruskin's only friend Corky, the school caretaker. Ruskin stops Elvis' window smashing by bursting his ball and after a long talk, they become friends again. This is a book of photocopiable activity sheets intended to help children become enthusiastic, motivated and reflective readers. I did find the Elvis character almost overwhelmingly irritating, but like a good pantomime villain it makes for more cheers when things are evened out at the end.
