The DTW1001 and DTW1002 Brushless Impact Wrenches from Makita are similar but differ on a few fronts. The Makita DTW1002 is a high torque cordless impact wrench with a maximum tightening torque of 1,000Nm and features a brushless motor that increases battery run time by 30-40%. Primarily I want a cordless grinder so I can chop stuff up and in to the car at the steel merchant rather than fannying about getting 6m+ lengths delivered.

The DTW1001 will handle the tightening of an M30 standard bolt, or M24 high tensile bolt with impact sockets held on the ¾” square drive with a pin and ring fixing. This reduces fault tightening, you can suit the material of workpiece or screw at a push of a button. The 3ah batteries are much cheaper and still available + good, charge in 22mins, the 5ah are amazing though and charge in 45mins. As part of the design, the tool utilizes every bit of battery power when you need, all while reducing the need for ongoing maintenance by reducing the amount of heat generated and working more efficiently. There’s also a 3 stage impact/torque selector which reduces or increases RPM and impact energy based on your fixing and material this means your battery will be 'optimized' and you won't be using up more energy than you need to.
