Matheson's second book, which was given to me as part of the Abrams Dinner Party, lives up to its title; the recipes are truly meant for home cooking, and many are just fancy enough to make you feel good about what you're serving while remaining down to earth and easy to make. While a lot of these recipes are beyond my home cook motivations, reading Matty Matheson’s hilarious but heartwarmingly authentic stories made it worth checking out.America publication Variety were the first to break the story, detailing the types of food one can expect to be able to make. Although it would be wrong to say this is the only cookbook you’ll ever need – it doesn’t quite have the same scope as Home Cookery Year for example – at 368 pages, Matheson has packed a lot in and pretty much delivers a dish for every occasion, drawing on a wide range of global culinary influences in the process. On the other hand, my sister hated it because she was a lot older and we tormented her so fucking much. As amazing as the first book was, I felt like it missed an opportunity to provide some recipes that satiated people’s hunger with simple and easy to cook meals, not that any of the ones I attempted were insanely difficult unless it came down to ingredient availability.

He's got this magnetism about him that makes you want to watch everything he does — food-related or otherwise. If you're from the Canadian coast or even New England you would probably enjoy some of these recipes. Now that i'm done gushing, in terms of the recipes you are gonna get a great mix of simple homecook dishes, pasta dishes, and lots of seafood from Matty's childhood out east.
