About this deal

Ultra dimming and a 4K resolution upscaler ensure sophisticated image optimization so that content with a lower resolution can also be displayed perfectly.

Colour tones still feel slightly off, though, there’s too much green again, and we become slightly more aware of a faint inner frame of extraneous light around the picture’s outer edges.

But at least the dynamic preset proves there really are Quantum Dots inside this TV, unlike the much less saturated other preset options that we would normally look to for the most beguiling and consistent picture quality experiences. To try to better understand how long a TV should last, we're running 100 TVs through an accelerated longevity test for the next two years. PayPal Credit and PayPal Pay in 3 are trading names of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH.

There are a few features to reduce banding, but it doesn't appear to work properly and doesn't reduce banding in both test patterns and real content. The bezels surrounding the screen are minimal - even the one across the bottom, which carries some branding and what passes for a design flourish at either end, is discreet. Let’s cut to the chase: the 55A7GQ’s picture quality turns out to be hugely disappointing, especially as it arrives amid a generally upward trajectory for Hisense TVs.

Grattan plc is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (No 311340), in respect of consumer credit activities.

In the previous version as well as on the Samsung TV, I could use the remote control from SKY to switch off/on TV and adjust the volume. With local dimming disabled, there's a bit of backlight bleed, and the entire screen appears a bit cloudy, but it's not too distracting. The bottom edge sports a smart silver, vaguely metallic-looking finish, while the other three edges are exceptionally trim and feature a black finish that again looks too polished to be bog-standard plastic. There’s a decent sense of detail in the mix too, and Hisense’s audio processing has a fair go at placing these details so that they create a mild sense of Dolby Atmos’s three-dimensional staging.
