I'd understand if one would be a bit sceptical when you know it's about talking dolls and involves a Ouija-board but TRUST MEEEEEEEE, it's so much more and put together so smartly. It’s great to see a new generation of Fedora stepping up to the plate and drawing attention to material many will be unaware of. And I was particularly revolted by the fact that Bell has them whole, dismembered, worn as jewellery and heaven knows what else. But they left something behind… Sophie arrives at the old schoolhouse to spend the summer with her cousins.

I had a ball reading it, and that counts for so much in deciding where a book falls for me in grand scheme of things. The descriptions were at times, very vivid, and I could almost "hear" the scratching of minuscule fingertips on a glass cabinet, desperate to be unleashed. After arriving to stay at the house, she can instantly see that something is wrong and each of her cousins is extremely strange.

After reading the book, I discovered that Frozen Charlotte dolls are real and still being sold today!I really enjoyed Frozen Charlotte – it was just so different from anything I’ve read in YA recently, and was exactly the right dose of horror I needed. Both are things I have previously found counter-productive to the chilling atmosphere the genre is meant to provide the reader with. This reminded me so much of the horror I read as a kid in the 70’s, in the days before parental guidelines existed. This cheery song in turn inspired the creation of the real Frozen Charlotte dolls – solid china dolls made from around 1850-1920, ranging in size from an inch to 18 inches.
