About this deal

Sam Kieth; Mike Dringenberg; Charles Vess; Michael Zulli; Kelley Jones; Chris Bachalo; Malcolm Jones; Danny Vozzo; Colleen Doran (illustrator). The print quality is excellent throughout, the blacks clear and crisp, the colours perfectly balanced. Maybe if I was only getting them once a month I'd have been disappointed in the beginning when they moved so quickly, while Gaiman was still getting the hang of this comic writing thing.

We then are introduced to the world of the Endless with now classic stories, laid out in vivid retouched colour on high quality paper. I'd read all these stories before in paperback editions, but it has been a huge pleasure re-reading them in this sumptuous format. Neil Gaiman revived the name of an early comic-book superhero only to give it to a protagonist whose utter difference, and that of the cohort of relatives who took the spotlight whenever he--the Sandman--absented it, refreshed mainstream comics even more than Frank Miller's overhauled Batman had a few years earlier. The book is about 50% larger in area than the original comic book size, which really enhances the often incredibly detailed artwork. These new Vertigo books are just young folks trying to copy what came before, and Vertigo, once an experimental art house for new creators, has become a blandly profitable branch of the company which produces safe, familiar books. And it's wonderful to read, curled up in a chair with the book propped on your knees and the ribbon bookmark marking your page. He stalks through the scenes, he's an arrogant and powerful prince and he doesn't hurry even when he's in a hurry. I remember collecting the comic book series when it came out because it looked unique in both Gaiman's storytelling and Keith's art. Absolute Sandman Volume 1 contains the first twenty issues as well as many, many pages of wonderful miscellany.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Hence what begins as an apparently straightforward horror comic quickly breaks through the confining straps of the genre and takes flight, going to places few if any comics had explored before. So, in short (TL: DR;) - if you're looking to read the Sandman series, you should look no further than the absolute editions. They are clearly designed to be evocative of both 19th century household Bibles and late medieval magical grimoires. Move over Dracula, there's a new murderous menace in town with teeth to put your pointy canines to shame. At the end of the book, alongside the original proposal for the series by Gaiman, is a printing of the pencilled Midsummer Night's Dream with notes from the man himself.

I put off reading Sandman for a long time for some reason, and it's too bad I did because it's pretty awesome. But I think that most people, even completely healthy and hale people, couldn't possibly read this without a table. In fact, you get the impression that artists are being auditioned and selected for the roles they are to play and the stories they have to tell. The stories showed that he can be selfless and objective, and the stories showed that he can also be selfish and cruel. If you've read the series before, then the absolute editions will be a fantastic addition to your collection and a strong reminder of what makes the series such a classic in the first place. Considered by many, me included, to be the best comic book ever written, Neil Gaiman's now classic mix of Greek myth and modern dark fantasy remains as captivating today as when it was first published.
