About this deal

Broken Souls is full of so many emotions, pain, trauma, but most importantly it has a message of healing and hope. With the bodies piling up and Lily still missing Lottie and her team work overtime to solve the case. Book 6 was the first in the series that I felt wobbled a bit in balance and quality(although I still enjoyed it) but I’m glad to report she is back on form here.

One dark winter morning, bride-to-be Cara Dunne is found hanging in her home, dressed in her wedding dress, with a lock of hair removed. Of course I was going to LOVE Broken Souls, because I LOVE Lottie Parker and I LOVE Patricia Gibney's writing! Normally this works well but in this novel she comes off as neurotic and controlling with more than one character telling her that it’s not all about her.The case takes a darker turn that afternoon with another shocking discovery - the broken body of a second young woman, pushed from the roof of the hospital where she worked.

I don't know why it's painful though because I'm still stuck back at where they could hardly speak to each other civilly before the entire story jumped ahead. She has an annoying habit of pre-empting everything, which is especially annoying in her personal relationships with her family and Boyd. The crimes are hard ones to crack and there will be quite a few false leads before all is resolved in this well plotted thriller. Two apparent suicides are discovered but both are wearing wedding dresses so suspicions are raised that the deaths were in fact murders.

Broken Souls and the DI Lottie Parker series will appeal to crime fiction and thriller enthusiasts alike. When she attends the scene of Cara Dunne’s ‘suicide’ something doesn’t sit right, and she has her suspicions that this is more likely a case of murder. I am now writing the second novel in the series, featuring Lottie Parker and a host of credible characters. I liked seeing Archie have a chapter in here, it really teased his book in the series which I can´t wait to get to.

Before I start diving into this review, I´m gonna do something that is unusual for me and give a trigger warning beforehand. When only hours later, yet another young woman dressed in a wedding gown is found dead, Lottie knows she is dealing with murder. The only thing I’ve ever wanted was to forget what happened that night so I could move on with my life. Honeysuckle Weeks is charming and loyal, with some nice touches of subtle humour as ever, and Anthony Howell is wonderful. She moves in a cottage next door to the hero Mark, who’s a firefighter and comes to her rescue more than once. I loved the story and Michele Moran's narration just simply adds to the overall enjoyment of the listening experience. Soon Fiona Heffernan’s broken body is discovered pushed from the roof of the hospital where she worked.
