About this deal

The one we had in the 80s had a red cover with The Picture Bible in embossed gold, and no artwork on the cover. Here’s the main clue - the illustrations were graphic, and I mean pretty violent, horrific and memorable. The Dorling Kindersley retellings are not only short and elegant to read, but unfamiliar items are illustrated and explained right on the page. Important quotations from the King James Bible are included with useful references to chapter and verse. With a reading and a prayer for every day of the year, this book offers a marvellous introduction to God's Word, and will help to develop the habit of daily reading and conversation with God that will last a lifetime.

This Bible also gives the child the feel of the times, like showing plants, utencils, and statues that are mentioned in the story. The classic stories are retold in simple, accessible language for children, while beautiful illustrations bring the words to life. Perfect for sharing with your child or grandchild or for them to read and discover the Bible on their own. This volume also includes a "Who's Who in the Bible Stories" as well as quotations from the King James Bible, identified by chapter and verse.

The pictures are realistic and not the silly cortoon-like figures you see in some children's bibles. The brightly coloured, detailed illustrations in this wonderful children's Bible bring every story to life. The somewhat lackluster illustrations on every page are not nearly as compelling as the stories themselves, but the variety of other artwork, including maps and color photographs of artifacts, plants, biblical places, animals, people, and architecture, makes up for any deficit there. The text has been beautifully rewritten in clear, engaging language especially for younger readers, and forms a delightful introduction to the Bible. My top 3 essential Catholic kids' books for kids with short attention spans grades K-6: the Lego Catechism of the 7 Sacraments, THIS children's Bible, and Meg Hunter-Kilmer's Saints Around the World.

The Children’s Bible contains all the best Bible stories, rewritten in simple sentences for children of all ages. From A-Z, this super-helpful dictionary is packed with hundreds of definitions and colourful pictures. It's not a big le in the sense of the entire bi le as an adult buble would be with every scripture, but rather key stories.A graduate in modern foreign languages, Janice Emmerson is the bestselling author of The Complete Illustrated Children's Bible, The Jesus Bible for Kids, and The Illustrated Bible for Little Ones. There would be a double-paged massive picture, dark and gloomy and horrible, almost (but not) like a photo of what the actual scene would have been like. Major events, including the Creation, the Nativity, and the Resurrection, are covered in depth and detail. Clear, easy-to-understand language and beautiful artwork make this little book is a treasure for young readers. The Illustrated Children's Bible is the perfect picture and storybook for young ones and an ideal first reader your children will treasure.

Rather than many dumbed-down, Disneyesque versions of children's Bibles that I have seen, and rather than the somewhat lame materials offered by our church, the Children's Illustrated Bible connects with kids. This is the story of Jesus - his birth, his life, his death and his resurrection - and all the wonderful stories he told, the miracles he performed, and the good news that he brought for each and every one of us. Colorful photographs and illustrations of key people and places, together with geographical maps of locations in the Bible, provide fresh insight and aid understanding. The high quality of the writting, the background information and the pictures deserve a 5-star rating. My seven year old daughter loves to have me read the stories and talk about the pictures, she is especially interested in the photographs along the sides of the pages showing actual carpenter tools, clothes, jewelery, foods, etc.

Very young children will love looking at the colorful pictures while the book is read aloud, while older children will enjoy reading the stories for themselves.

In this beautifully illustrated book, the story of Easter is retold for children in straightforward and accessible language - the final days that Jesus spent on earth, his betrayal and death, and his glorious resurrection. Raised in a family with a 50-year history of publishing Bibles and commentaries, she has an inherent wealth of knowledge and understanding of the gospel that is evident in her inspirational and melodic style of writing. I want to get hold of a copy of this bible I had as a kid as they just don’t make them like that any more. The DK Children's Bible has become my gift of choice for newborns, whether the parents are dedicated Christians or only those who want their kids to see the Bible as great literature.
