About this deal

I also noticed a weird glitch towards the finale of the feature where the image dropped out for a brief moment and the entire screen went black, then white. Sadly, producer Robert Fern just passed away, so are they still going to play the "rights issue" card? The scene where Parks sharpens a tusk while speaking to a wheelchair-bound Justin Long only to imply that the bone is in fact his tibia is truly the stuff of nightmares – which only makes the film’s bizarrely mean-spirited depiction of Canada that much funnier (something that I actually appreciate even more having grown up in Ontario). Notable genre actors Seth Green and Ami Dolenz also star, and look for Alfonso Ribeiro playing against type during peak popularity of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air .

It’s impressive in its ambition, especially for a group of amateur filmmakers, and has long since developed a significant cult following. However, not all of these weird movies are created equal, and I’d argue that a silly premise is only half the battle when crafting a legitimately entertaining piece of absurdist genre cinema. From man-eating beds to serial-killing gingerbread cookies, there’s no shortage of absurd premises in the horror genre. I feel like there just shouldn’t be a “but…” after “I know he’s gone through some serious health issues. Minor issues aside, the largest complain from me is the ample use of Digital Noise Reduction that is at play here.Take One" (24:58, SD) is a cable access show from 1982, interviewing Marc Harwood on his experiences shaping the movie and his feelings about the low-budget world of filmmaking. If you’re in the mood for zany, giant insectoid B-movie entertainment, well, this one delivers the goods. This creature feature wins entertainment points for its title alone; there are no monkeys here, let alone a blue one. I admit I have a soft spot for this one, not just for being one of the rare evil djinn movies that go full-blown creature feature, but also for being set in my hometown. That's an SD upscale from what I can gather, but it does away with the awful compression of the old DVD, and uses far less DNR, so it's at least watchable.

Bohus (1:19, SD) welcomes the viewer to "The Deadly Spawn," while taking a few moments to display some merchandise for the film and goof around with an alien puppet. Select reviewers may receive discounted products, promotional considerations or entries into drawings for honest, helpful reviews. Fortunately, my re-examination of the gory 1983 sci-fi/horror oddity The Deadly Spawn was not one of those movies that lost its appeal. Use the thumbs up and thumbs down icons to agree or disagree that the title is similar to The Deadly Spawn. These were films like The Deadly Spawn, Night of the Creeps, Critters, Killer Klowns From Outer Space and somany more. The participants are honest about the feature, but the tone is generally celebratory, sure to please fans. Yet 10 years later we still don't have it, despite that it was supposedly finished years ago, and it shows no signs of being any closer to a release. Absolutely impressive effects and it delivers with everything you want in a movie about alien space worms taking over Earth.
