Pros: It made me consider cultural capital as a power dynamic in gentrification and how cultural power dynamics in shape personal taste. I flat out did not like the argument of tattoos being gentrified, because it becomes exclusionary at times (ex: why is delicate feminine Asian tattoos seen as undermining American traditional tattoos). and i think it actually does tenant organizing a disservice to pretend as if these concepts are separate. I learned a lot about the factors that influence gentrification and its relationship with other discriminations like misogyny and racism.

I loved this book, especially the timing of when I read it since I just taught gentrification the day I picked this book up. Too many references to other authors in the text made it at times a bit of a mash-up: other views could have been more often integrated more elegantly with a footnote referring to the authors.

This format bears the style of a scientific essay, which is not an issue per se, it is just not what I was hoping to read. I received this book as an ALC on Libro and picked it up to get in another read at the end of the month.
