Issei, the protagonist, is very unlikable and annoying, and he too get even worse as the story goes on. My heart beat accelerated and mild shivers ran down my spine and I didn't know how to calm myself down. The first arc, titled The Red Dragon Emperor's Awakening (赤龍帝覚醒 Sekiryūtei Kakusei), ran through the first two volumes. Writing that " High School DxD turned out to be a really pleasant surprise", Høgset continued that "I will certainly look into the sequel if FUNimation ever gets it out the door on disc. True High School DxD [ ] Red Dragon Emperor of the Blazing Truth × White Dragon Emperor of the Morning Star: The True Dragon(s) of the Kuoh Academy [ ] No.Holyhell, this might probably the longest harem novel I have seen which I guess has led to its downfall. Recommended reading as it details the backstory of Sirzechs and Grayfia’s meeting and subsequent love story. The story centers on Issei Hyodo, a perverted high school student from Kuoh Academy who desires to be a harem king and is killed by his first date, revealed to be a fallen angel, but is later revived as a devil by the red-haired devil princess Rias Gremory to serve her and her devil family.

I read this volume quickly too, I was able to finish it in one day and I’m not much of a heavy reader. Finding the animation "to die for" and the music "fun throughout", Active Anime lauded DxD as "a kick ass action comedy that's crazy sexy", with "sexy devil ladies, a hero with heart, and exhilarating action mak[ing] this a win-win! more>> After one point, the whole ecchiness and fan-service gets tedious and tiring because you know the characters are never gonna reach the 2nd base, just when the things starts to get serious they always get interrupt by someone and you know the first snu-snu2 is obviously gonna happen with the main female lead Riaz first, so other girls needs to get in line. Normally this is a bad thing as fanservice (in general) implies a hastily written plot or just badly written in general, but well.But Jasmine's ex-boyfriend from college came into the picture with his schemes and lies, leading Jasmine to quit her job at Hollen Tower. Honestly this volume surprised me, there was fan service, but it actually complimented the story and only made it funnier and more interesting. Serving as a side story, the manga takes place after chapter 10 of the main manga, and centers on Asia Argento's first duties as a Devil.
