I’ve read My Hygge Home once to review, and flipped through a couple of times in writing this post, but it’s another book I want to revisit. Creating a hygge home needs lighting, comfortable surroundings (rugs or throws) and light that is adaptable enough to create pools of magic. And I just wasn't the audience for the author's corny sense of humor and cultural references (Laura Ingalls Wilder and Winston Churchill aren’t inspiring or cozy to me). Rather than hyper-focusing on a very narrow and stereotypical (not to mention materialistic) definition of Hygge, this book actually delved into the Science and Psychology of happiness and what one needs to do/change in their life/environment to achieve that elusive state even in the dark depths of the coldest, nastiest winter. This book is a lovely read just in time for autumn, the photos are beautiful, and I like that I'm more aware of how the simple things we take for granted every day can make a huge impact with just a little thought and minor adjustment.
