About this deal

Led by industry professionals the young people learnt practical film making skills with a focus on preparing for higher/further education and employability. A very dark night it was, and bitter cold; the east wind blowing bleak, and bringing with it stinging particles from marsh, and moor, and fen -- from the Great Desert and Old Egypt, may be.

The jacket is in a dust wrapper, all very good, strong binding, there is foxing thought the book on the edges of the pages. I enjoyed this collection, probably more than most would, both because I am a British expatriate and because London is my favorite city in the world. This 60 minute low budget film written and directed by Ryan Claffey and produced by Carl Bryan will challenge your perceptions. The stories themselves were a mixed bag, which is to be expected from a collection and there were some very good ones. Philosopher Jeremy Bentham left instructions that on his death he should be publicly dissected, then his body put on display as his own memorial. But as soon as the war broke out in 1914, Underground posters were also rapidly produced to publicise the war effort. He was also among the very first drivers of motor buses in London, as petrol engines began to replace horse-drawn transport.

Although, as with anthology, I wasn't a fan of every single story or essay in this collection, I thought it provided an interesting sweep of London history. The films were originally shown altogether as part of a premiere event followed by a panel talk on the 11th February 2021. They wear their red state ‘dress uniforms’ for important occasions at the Tower, and also for special events such as the firing of the huge cannon on the Wharf, known as the Gun Salutes. Most of the cast members are relatively inexperienced but their individual performances were clearly bolstered by their sense of rapport and by good direction. His in-depth photo essays explore social issues relating to identity, environment and human transition.

The earliest really arresting piece for me though was an extract from Defoe's Colonel Jack which describes a very different London life very arrestingly. Learn how he served as London Transport’s most senior engineer, overseeing the company’s engineering activities during the Blitz. Glen says: “Its about a guy and his best friend and how he feels like he has to not be emotional, to be a man, as a man never shows his true emotions as a stereotype”. You can find them everywhere from railings, to pubs, and even adorning the tower of St Paul's Cathedral. It includes both first person descriptions of important events such as the plague and the Great Fire of London, some short stories and some memoirs of life in London. It sets out to explore the concept of minority by telling the stories of several different London-based families from diverse cultural backgrounds. The busy man and woman of to-day may have the inclination but has rarely the time to give to this enthralling subject the attention it deserves. Since then, it has more than 4 million users and is now the world’s largest ongoing study into the virus.
