About this deal

Dennoch war es mir zu sprunghaft, der häufige Wechsel zwischen den Zeiten, auch wenn ich natürlich verstehe, und schon früh ahnte, dass der Rückblick am Schluss notwendig ist, um nicht schon alles zu verraten. She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca. What a wonderful, heart-warming, beautifully emotional story by Ruth Jones of 4 generations, trying to navigate their own lives and their relationships with others and each other. Her novels are full of wonderful characters and the stories so well written, much in the same vein as Graham Norton. That's Grace, nearly ninety; her wayward daughter Alys; Alys's daughter Elin, a headteacher; and Beca, the younger generation, just 16.

The reader gains knowledge of this family's background, including the harm and suffering that have been inflicted upon them. Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. A wonderfully told story following 4 generations of Welsh women, with complex characters, complicated relationships and a glorious and beautiful ending. I loved all the characters and did not see the twist in the story coming, so it was rather emotional for reasons I can’t go into without giving away the ending. She has no idea quite what will happen next and whatever it is, it is sure to cause trouble in the family.I would like to thank both Netgalley and Random House for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. It got into the depths of mother / daughter / grandmother / great grandmother relationships in such a wonderful and both heartbreaking and endearing way.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I didn't find myself gripped like I did with her others. The thread which binds together mothers and daughters throughout their lives is awesomely strong; motherhood forges links of steel across generations, as I’ve seen myself since our own daughter gave birth to her first child - a girl. Her 16 year old daughter Beca is about to fail her GCSE’s, her husband has started behaving strangely and her grandmother is secretly trying to track down Elin’s mother Alys before she turns 90, so the scene is set for some spectacular secrets to be revealed. Meanwhile Grace's great -grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own.It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel – with characters you’ll come to know and love – from no. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher / author for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book for review. But Grace’s granddaughter, Elin, is also estranged from Alys and any reconciliation will cause huge problems in the family.

Ruth Jones is not afraid to push the emotional buttons, and her writing keeps getting better and better. Grace is close to Alys’s own daughter, Elin, but the family rift runs deep, affecting Elin’s marriage and her relationship with her teenage daughter Beca. This heart-warming story about Grama Grace and her descendants is eventful and fraught with misunderstanding. The characters in this one generally are likeable accept Alys making me warm to the writing of her even more. A story of three generations, misunderstandings, heart break, rescue, love and ultimately coming together. The characters were interesting and well developed and the story was strong enough to keep me reading when I should have been somewhere else! Ruth's second novel, Us Three , was an instant Sunday Times bestseller in hardback and paperback and has sold almost a quarter of a million copies. PRAISE FOR RUTH JONES'Heartfelt, joyful, brave, utterly compelling' RACHEL JOYCE'I adored it' JOANNA CANNON'Joyful, life-affirming' ADELE PARKS'Beautifully warm and totally absorbing. Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. Sounded too familiar - as I was the great-granddaughter in my family until I lost my great-nan when I was 24, I just had to read this to see how the dynamics worked between the 4!Also found the colloquial grammer used whenever characters spoke irritating, ie the way all the gs were dropped - "nothin" "pickin" etc. Ruth's second novel, Us Three, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller in hardback and paperback and has sold almost a quarter of a million copies. Love Untold is the first book I’ve read by Ruth Jones, but after loving it I’ve added her others to my (ever-growing) list.
