About this deal

First off, let’s talk about the single player, which we’ve already covered in detail in our preview.

And even though I can understand your point, personally, I'd like to look at things from the glass half full perspective.Where Splatoon 2’s single-player campaign gently guides you through Octoling enemies, the new Salmon Run mode is an excellent cooperative foil.

Rainmaker is a capture-the-flag mode where teams fight over control of the powerful Rainmaker weapon and carry it into the rival team's base. Holding the ZL button turns you into a squid that can swim quickly and invisibly througn your team's ink, all while refilling your ink-based ammo. To some extent, I suppose you've got a point about things that should already have been in there in the first place, but on the other hand, you also have to take into account that making a shooter was something entirely new for Nintendo, so they were treading on unknown territory. It's a retread of the first Splatoon's single-player mode, tasking you with recovering the electricity-providing Zapfish from the corrupted Octolings who stole them. Certain elements of the Heads-Up Display have also been revamped, showing the weapons each player has and whether their Special Weapons are ready to be used.

The supposedly evil Octarians have much better AI, there are new foes to contend with, and most importantly they more often than not serve as an obstacle to be overcome rather than a necessary method of progression.

Some of the weapon changes may at first seem overpowered, such as the Charger weapons allowing users to maintain a charge for a short time when in squid form, but the real balancing comes from the new stage design. The only issue I had with the first game was the horrible internet connection problems and maybe the single player campaign. Speaking of matchmaking, there is one additional option we unfortunately were unable to test prior to press time for this review: Nintendo’s Online Lobby. I get that Nintendo wants to ensure full rooms on the days Salmon Run is active, but this seems like a poor way to do it.The contestants had to mail in the right answer to the question: "Which colorful shooting-game releases on the 21st July [the same year] for the Nintendo Switch? Its a good game for what it is but apart from the fanatics most people will get bored of this in a couple of months like cod. Salmonids arrive in greater numbers, but then at the start of another wave the tide changes, growing or shrinking the landmass. Make sure that you are entering the Download Code (usually begins with a B, no hyphens in the number) and not the Control Number (usually begins with an S, has hyphens).
