About this deal

The author travels and takes pictures, and sometimes adds the story. I loved them all but would like to tell you about these ones. This book is for owning, not borrowing. I had tears.

I discovered a photogenic vacant lot in Soho, but was unable to convince anyone to pose in it. After several minutes, I finally came across this father and son from Paris. They barely spoke English, yet agreed to park their wheelchair and stand for a portrait.

Collected from trips to over twenty countries, these stories feature people from around the world.

A great big coffee table book. If I owned it and had a coffee table I'd dip into it every so often and it'd take years to get through. But as a library book I (have to)(get to) read it through in a timely manner. This book is beautiful because there’s so much life in it, and life is beautiful. That’s something easy to forget in New York. There are so many people that the crowds can become anonymous obstacles. These photos make you stop, look, and listen. You realize that every face is unique and compelling; and that behind these faces is somebody thoughtful, frightened, lonely, or confused. Far from anonymous crowds, you are surrounded by vulnerable, struggling, and triumphantly strong individuals. It feels so cheesy to say it like that, but the realization can be overpowering. In 2019, Stanton introduces his audience to the striptease artist Tanqueray, who later becomes a niche icon. Brandon Stanton’s “Humans of New York” (2013) captures the joy, diversity, and promise of American and New York City life in a book of 400 glossy color photographs. Taken over a three-year period, the photographs show people of all ages, races, economic classes ,religions, and conditions of life. There are photographs of people alone, with their pets, with lovers, or with friends and family. Some of the subjects are homeless street people while others clearly live a life of opulence. People are shown at work and play, dreaming, talking fighting, extroverted and meditative. The photographs in the volume are all taken with the knowledge of the subjects and thus, to a greater or lesser degree, posed rather than candid. Some of these stories are joyful, some are deeply sad, but still others remind us to think about the long haul.

It was seriously impossible to put down, and I think I nearly took a picture of everything because I didn’t want to forget anything. As a people photographer, my first response to something new is not aesthetic judgment, but rather thankfulness. Without the risk takers, I’d have nothing new to photograph." ajánlom azoknak is, akik nem ismerik a blogot, és azoknak is, akik igen. Hiába ismerjük már a történetek jó részét, jó újraolvasni őket. Sok újjal is találkoztam, pedig már néhány éve követem az oldalt. Több száz világba pillanthatunk be.
