The S95QA not only handles Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive sound formats, but it’s LG’s first soundbar to include IMAX Enhanced support, which uses a modified version of DTS:X. The LG S95QR has a fantastic selection of sound enhancement features. Like most premium bars, it comes with a room correction feature that optimizes audio reproduction based on your room's acoustics—it's called AI Room Calibration, and you can set it up in the LG Sound Bar app. You can customize the bar's sound, too, using its bass and treble adjustments as well as its EQ presets: 'AI Sound Pro', 'Standard', 'Music', 'Cinema', 'Clear Voice', 'Sports', 'Game', and 'BassBlast'. The 'Cinema' preset acts as a virtual surround mode, replicating a more three-dimensional sound. There's a night time mode in the app to balance the volume level when you watch shows at night. Following the recent ‘mega update’, the HDMIs can also pass 4K/120Hz gaming feeds from the latest games consoles and PC graphics cards – still a very rare feature in soundbar circles. Audio file support includes AAC, AAC+, MP3 C4A, OGG (up to 48kHz) C4A, AAC C4A, FLAC, WAV C4A, and LPCM, and the firmware update also, excellently, added support for the lossless MQA standard supported by Tidal and Spotify. The subwoofer is, rightly, more about function than form, but with its rounded edges and appealing finish it’s less necessary to hide it down the side of a sofa or under a side board than it is with most subwoofers. Neither of these issues occurs consistently enough to be seriously distracting, though, leaving all the good things the S95QR does overwhelmingly to the fore.AI Sound Pro gives you the ideal sound balance - whatever you're watching. LG's unique technology analyses the signal and adjusts the balance to suit. If it senses high vocal levels, for example, then it automatically lowers the bass, making speech programmes, such as the news or commentary, much clearer and more detailed.

You completely forget that the physical speakers are there, at least when listening to a 3D Dolby Atmos sound stage, and instead you’re enveloped in a massive world of sound. The S95QR’s main soundbar is strikingly compact for something capable of making so much noise. At just 63mm high it should fit beneath most TVs, and while it’s pretty lengthy at 1.2m wide (so is suitable for TVs of 55 inches and up), it’s solid and evenly balanced.A huge 810W of claimed power is shared around the S95QR’s drivers, and it’s no surprise given all of the features described so far that LG’s flagship soundbar is capable of playing both the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats that represent the current state of audio art in the home entertainment world.
