About this deal

In this article, I’ll take a look at some of the best Philips Hue compatible motion sensors to automate both your indoor and outdoor lights. The Top Hue Sensors and Alternatives Welcome to my exploration into the captivating world of motion sensors, the silent workhorse behind your automated lighting systems. As a seasoned user of Philips Hue lights and sensors, my passion for smart home technology has led me to experiment with some other popular motion sensor brands, including LIFX, Sengled, SmartThings, and Zwave, to name a few.

What’s extra cool about this sensor is that you can use it to trigger indoor lights too. So, when you arrive home from a long day at the office, your outside lights and desired inside lights turn on auto-magically. Now, that’s what I call smart. Brands include Aisirer, Athom, BlitzWolf, BrilliantSmart, eWeLink, Girier, Globe, Gosund, Lohas, MagicHome, Moes, Shelly, Smart Life, Sonoff, Tuya, Zemismart and many other brands.

Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the network – pairing indicator starts flashing red on the sensor. Follow the on-screen instructions on your phone to finalize the setup

I prefer the look of the Fibaro but I have had the odd issue which requires a battery pull. Maybe twice a year. There are motion sensors that allow you to change the length of the cooldown period, even down to just a second or two, but doing so will significantly reduce the battery life. So it just depends on what your use case is. It is really the inactive report you want to work with if you plan on turning lights off. You either turn the lights off immediately motion is inactive or if you want a bit more of a delay you make the condition motion remaining inactive for e.g. a minute. Having set everything up with the above this is the approach I take every time and every time it works to get these devices registered. If that is also rubbish I’m going to try the Elgato Eve stuff. The tech may be Bluetooth, but for goodness sake I just want the sensors to work… or at least report that they may not in the case of battery drain. Of course, it never hurts to go with mobile options like the Centralite Micro Motion Sensor that falls on the smaller side of things or an in-wall option like the GE Z-Wave Plus Wireless Smart Sensor.

If there has been no motion in the living room AND I am home turn off the Living room lights UNLESS the lights were turned on with the wall switch (manual override of the automatic light turn off) When the sensor detects motion this is reported to the hub and the device handler/driver will process it and set the motion attribute of the motion sensor capability to active. You can then use that in e.g. a Routine to perhaps set a light on. Philips Hue outdoor motion sensor is an excellent addition to exterior lighting. It can trigger specific lights or scenes when movement is detected, providing safety and convenience. However, it’s essential to place the sensor on a flat surface or magnetic mount for optimal performance. (Words: 55, Keywords: 6) Hue Compatible Motion Sensors: Your TurnFAQs about Hue Compatible Motion Sensors 1. Do Philips Hue lights and motion sensors work together? If your device is currently using non-official Tasmota firmware, you MUST flash the device with the Official Tasmota firmware and reset configuration. So in 2020, SmartThings introduced an official feature, “The Rules API,” which is similar to WebCore, although not as yet as fully developed or documented. But it is expected that in the future it will eventually provide full support for these kind of complex rules. Which is important, because when smartthings discontinues its free groovy cloud, Webcore will stop working. But the routines you can build in the smartthings app and the rules API will still work with the new architecture. Now, I understand the bandwidth issues of wifi and zigbee… but as a consumer why should I need to care… just work out of the box!!! Ensure your mobile phone is connected to the WIFI network and the sensor is as close to the Zigbee Smart Gateway as possible

One sensor, worked as expected for 2 weeks, then one night went on a complete fit, started detecting motion at every few seconds…guess what, the battery drained in a matter of hours… awesome design. SmartThings is a very powerful, versatile system even for non-programmers. You will have to do a little research to get started, but it definitely has rules capabilities far beyond many of the other low-cost home automation systems, so if you want those kinds of complex rules, it may be a very good match for you. In June I added an Aqara ZNCZ12LM smart plug and two Sengled ‎Smart Plugs G2, I had a mixture of DTH and Edge drivers installed, I remember that both brands were a PITA to add even within 10’ of the hub. For the price point the Xiaomi ones are pretty good. They can be difficult to pair but once done I don’t get any issues. Likewise the Orvibo but they are big. Motion sensors are the secret sauce of energy-efficient smart lighting. It’s not just about asking Alexa to dim the lights but about using Hue-compatible motion sensors to optimize energy consumption—a smart devices field predicted by Statistica to grow exponentially through 2030.

If your device is currently using the Tasmota (Connect) Groovy SmartApp/Driver, you MUST remove the device from Tasmota (Connect), and then add it using Tasmota Edge. Thanks to our friends at TWiT Netcast Network for the helpful video review. Sweet studio setup, guys!
