About this deal

In terms of the story, I think some might find it slow to take off, particularly at the beginning and especially if you're expecting something more along the lines of pure horror. There are certainly horror elements in this book, but for the most part there's nothing too frightening. Is 14 scary? No, not really; there's nothing that would give me trouble sleeping anyway. But creepy and a bit unsettling? Definitely. This eeriness strengthens throughout the course of the novel with each new discovery of weirdness in Nate's building, every one of them adding to the atmosphere. For the novel 14, NerdsonEarth.com reviewer Joseph Robinson praised the work for the mysterious build-up that occurred during the novel as it was something that defied his own expectations for the piece. Robinson also comments that the characters in the novel are not completely fleshed out and only really make decisions that further the plot of the book. [1] Cosmic Horror Story: The secrets of the universe tied to the Kavach Building threaten one's sanity. Subverted. Everything actually more or less works out in the end. What made me finish it was constant monitoring and harassment by members of my book club. Thanks, guys.

Just before the plot started falling apart, one of the tenants suggested that they may have gathered enough information about the mysterious apartment building, hinting at the idea of bringing their investigation to a close. in fact, i found the protagonist, Nate, supremely uninteresting. almost despicable, really. the only character i thought was of any interest was Oskar, the super, the one person these characters seem to actively hate.Even given that the characters themselves are uninteresting (worse, they are capital-I “Interesting!” which makes them all the more boring, because why explore a character when you can just give them histories and talents that are designed to do the work for you), nothing is more frustrating than characters acting illogically. They fail to do the obvious things because had they done anything a normal person might have done, the mystery would not have played out. There were only a few things I struggled with. There are a lot of characters and all the Superheroes have their secret identity name and then their Superhero name. I got a little confused keeping them all straight for a little while sorta like a George RR Martin Book I needed a character tree. But by the end I totally had the hang of it I hope. Because there are so many characters it was hard to get a really in-depth look at any. But since this is a series I’m sure that will be ultimately remedied. Sure, like any other book, this book has got its ups and downs but I ignored little mistakes to enjoy what is essentially a very gripping tale. What was great about the novel would be the good set of characters. From the main character to the minor ones, all of them were fully developed in the end. Nate was a great main character and he delivered what he needed to do. Right from the start he was entertaining, and so were his apartment neighbors. My only complaint would be the cliche things that happened with them in the end. I saw everything coming, once again.

Did I learn anything? Why certainly (but I have forgotten whatever it was)mostly this book underlines how diverse sci fi is.

Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The residents really-really are messing with stuff above their knowledge level. And it almost destroys the world. I was left wondering who spends time examining roaches to the point of counting body appendages, that roach would have been crushed by a book/shoe/pot/couch so fast I would have missed any significance. This book has being compared to the TV series Lost and I can understand why. Because as I have said earlier, this is one of the tautest mystery/horror thrillers I have read in a long long time.

I like the effort Clines has put into the logistics of his heroes...Dragon sort of glides instead of flying like Superman, and if you hit him hard enough he actually bruises. Zzap can't carry anything in his energy form, and his full-spectrum perception is actually a hindrance when hunting cold-blooded exes (zombies). Cerberus has trouble with her battlesuit's power supply. Et cetera.Mike, though a high school English teacher in Maine, has an eidetic memory and can recall anything he's ever seen. His friend Reggie Magnus, who works for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ( DARPA), believes he is putting his talent and genius to waste as a high school teacher and employs him on a secret project titled the Albuquerque Door just outside of San Diego, California. Mike is sent simply as an observer for the project, to assure that everything is working properly before they announce it and unveil it to the public. Aber eine durchwegs spannende, gut erzählte, humorvolle Geschichte mit glaubhaften Charakteren und vielen phantastischen, originellen Elementen. Wow! What an AMAZING bunch of characters. The characters in the Kavach building, were probably one of the most fun groups of people I have ever read about! What a diverse and entertaining group of people! Nate, the main character is probably the most dull of the lot, yet he was still extremely enjoyable to read about! “Only a publisher” Tim across the hall, sun baking artist Xela, the subtle as a sledgehammer computer geek Veek, not to mention the rest… Their interactions were witty and clever, making me laugh out loud on numerous occasions. This story makes references to Scooby-Doo and Victorian inventors. Also there is a tad of name dropping and jargon/info about movie making and working as a temp.
