About this deal

Asus claims that the third fan keeps the GPU temperatures up to seven degrees cooler than traditional solutions, which should help the laptop maintain a high overall performance. That said, you can get more GPU power if you spend extra on a laptop with an RTX 3080 Ti – that core averaged 120fps in Horizon at 1080p, while the Flow managed 87fps. Asus has long been one of the most innovative laptop companies around, and the Asus ROG Flow X16 continues that tradition because it’s a gaming laptop that’s also a 2-in-1 hybrid device.

Here’s a spec sheet of this series, and we’ll further touch on the important aspects below. Specs sheet – ROG Flow X16 Automatic switching between Silent, Performance, and Turbo modes is just the beginning for Scenario Profiles. You can also define application-specific preferences for other vital system settings, like the lighting configuration, whether the Windows key or touchpad are enabled, and which GameFirst VI and Sonic Studio III profile to use. Armoury Crate makes adjustments in an instant to best fit the task at hand, and you can configure each profile exactly how you want. There’s a reason why every rival uses Intel silicon. The Core i7-12700H scored 1,686 and 12,040 in the same benchmarks in the Alienware x17. In PC Mark 10 the Asus scored a respectable 7529, but the i7-12700H hit nearly 8000 points in the same test. ROG GameVisual software offers six expertly tuned graphic modes designed to optimize your visual experience for specific game genres. First Person Shooter (FPS) mode, for example, enhances visibility in dark environments, allowing you to get the drop on any enemies lurking in the shadows. Use GameVisual to get the best experience for every game in your library.

This is a seriously powerful laptop with a killer mini-LED screen.

Move it all the way around and it’s a large tablet for touchscreen gaming, or use it in portrait mode and it’s great for reading or web browsing – as long as you can cope with the increased size when compared to the average iPad. I’m looking forward to spending more time with this for the review, and sharing my findings with you.

While we haven’t been able to test out the display on the Flow X16, Asus claims that the machine passes the new ROG Nebula display certification, which requires 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, at least 500 nits of brightness and a response time of 3ms or less. The Flow X16 is also compatible with the ROG XG mobile dGPU, which you can now get with up to an RTX 3080 or an RX 6850 XT dGPU. You’ll find out what to expect from the RTX 3080 XG mobile from this article.ROG engineers had to bend a few conventions to accommodate all of the power inside it’s the Flow X16’s svelte frame. The X16 builds upon years of Intelligent Cooling experience and improvements to push the boundaries of the kind of power possible in a thin and light laptop. Our new Frost Force Technology directs air through precisely calculated and machined cutouts in the chassis, sending air directly towards internal components to keep them cool even during extended gaming sessions and video renders. In addition, the X16 has a unique tri-fan design. This extra auxiliary fan directly helps exhaust heat from the GPU to the heatsinks, while also keeping fan noise lower than a traditional dual fan design. USB-A 3.2 gen1, 1x USB-C 3.2 (4.0 update later in the year) with data, video and charging, 1x ROG xGM port, HDMI 2.0b, micro SD card reader, headphone&mic With that out of the way, as mentioned earlier, the Flow X16 is a convertible. I expect it to spend most of its time in laptop mode, but it can be switched into a tablet or tent mode when needed.
