The OneStep 2 is compatible with two types of 600 ISO film. The first is the i-Type film designed specially for i-Type cameras like the OneStep2, and the second is 600 film, which works with both the new i-Type cameras and vintage 600 series cameras. Polaroid Originals recommends using i-Type because it is optimised for use with the OneStep 2. Polaroid warns in the user manual that the viewfinder isn’t 100 percent accurate — it’s not a through-the-lens viewfinder — especially when close to the subject. The viewfinder feels a bit like looking through a bubble — the center of the image bends towards you as if magnified, while the edges are blurred. It’s pretty hard not to fall head-over-heals in love with the OneStep 2. Based on the design of the original OneStep, it has all the trappings of a vintage instant camera, along with a few modern perks that improve the user experience.
To avoid a blurry photo, make sure you are at least 60cm (2 feet) away from your subject when you take the picture. For the best results, always try to shoot with your light source behind you. Inspired by the original OneStep, Polaroid says they've updated the OneStep 2 "to create a simple, easy-to-use instant camera that works straight out of the box." It sports a 'high quality lens' that can focus from 2ft to infinity, a 'powerful' flash, a rechargeable battery that allegedly lasts 60 days on a charge, a self-timer function, and it's compatible with both the new i-Type instant film and the old 600 series film.If you shoot towards the light — going agains the recommendations — the lens sometimes flares and causes portions of the photo to blow out. Unfortunately, the flare isn’t an artsy, rainbow-style effect, but a white blob at the edge of the photo. You can usually tell through the viewfinder when this is going to happen, and can even prevent it by shielding the lens with one hand, a sort of makeshift lens hood, but this isn’t always easy to do and you risk getting your hand in the photo if you’re not careful. Exposure dial: Move the yellow dial to the plus or minus sign to increase or reduce the exposure by a half-stop, or leave it in the middle to let the camera choose the best exposure. Stamped right on the bottom of the camera is the suggestion to keep at least 2 feet away from your subject. The fixed-focus lens is rated for 2 feet to infinity; get too close, and the images will be soft. Indoors, the flash is also far too bright for objects that close. Other suggestions etched on the camera recommend shooting with the sun behind you and always leaving the flash on unless shooting in an ultra bright scene. Hilary Grigonis/Digital Trends
The lens – made from optical-grade polycarbonate and coated to reduce flare – has a focal length of 106mm (roughly equivalent to 40mm) and again the focus is fixed, this time from around 60 centimetres to infinity. Indoors, Polaroid says the built-in flash helps to color balance the images, but we still found the shots to be a bit too yellow. Of course, maybe that’s desirable as part of the 1970s look and feel. Our Take Another issue I found was that images featuring lots of open sky sometimes had small white dots – an issue that other reviewers have reported as well.

Flash: The flash will always fire automatically but if you decide you don’t want the flash, you can always suppress it by holding down the ‘flash off’ button on the rear as you take the shot. Avoid suppressing the flash indoors or in dark places as your image will likely end up too dark. Store your unopened film inside a fridge between 4 and 18°C. Let it warm up to room temperature for about an hour before shooting it. The instant camera is simple enough to use that my 6-year-old had fun snapping a photo with it (although, it was a bit too large for my four-year-olds hands). And while adults will enjoy the camera, too, instant film is a fun way to teach kids photography, and demonstrate that some things are worth waiting for.
