About this deal

The short won the first BAFTA Award for Best Short Animation awarded in 1990, beating out Park's other nominated short, Creature Comforts. Midgley, Neil (26 November 2010). "Christmas telly is a reassuring British tradition". The Daily Telegraph . Retrieved 25 November 2014. Martins, Holly (September 2000). "13th BBC British Short Film Festival". Netribution. Whilst in the hospital overnight, I was inspired by the fantastic balloon mural that adorns the corridors and I realised we could really help The Grand Appeal raise some serious funds. The charity does such crucial work valued by so many people at difficult times, it was a no brainer. We decided we would privately sponsor the balloon in full and it was built in complete secrecy. Ben Whitehead, who has been voicing Wallace since Peter Sallis' retirement, will play the part of Wallace in this adventure and other forthcoming projects. We're delighted that Ben will uphold Peter's legacy by bringing Wallace's unique charm to an exciting new chapter in the Wallace and Gromit story. Park wanted Wallace to have a Lancastrian accent like his own, but Sallis could only do a Yorkshire voice. Inspired by how Sallis drew out the word "cheese", Park chose to give Wallace large cheeks. When Park called Sallis six years later to explain he had completed his film, Sallis swore in surprise. [11] A Grand Day Out". Wallace & Gromit. Archived from the original on 7 February 2008 . Retrieved 22 August 2015. A Grand Day Out was finally finished and transmitted on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve, 1990 - 6 years after production began!Annual Report 1990" (PDF). Channel 4. p.20. Archived from the original (PDF) on 24 September 2015 . Retrieved 15 August 2015. According to the book The World of Wallace and Gromit, original plans were that the film would be forty minutes long, including a sequence where Wallace and Gromit would discover a fast food restaurant on the Moon. Regarding the original plot, Park said: The action plays out on the Meta Quest all-in-one headset*, and the project is a co-production between Aardman, Atlas V, No Ghost and Albyon. The Grand Getaway is a fully self-contained, single player game, and all interactions are with the characters of the storyworld only. It took nine months to build the balloon (that's the same time it takes for a good Parmesan to age, cheese fans!) and although it can't fly to the moon, it can safely fly to 30,000 feet or more (although the pilot would need an oxygen supply to reach these heights.) The short debuted on 4 November 1989 at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol, UK, and debuted in the United States on 18 May 1990. It was also shown on Channel 4 on 24 December 1990 in the UK.

The Creators had Wallace say "Wensleydale" as it made his face look nice & toothy. They were unaware that the real Wensleydale Cheese Factory was going to declare bankruptcy. Because of the film's success, cheese sales went higher than ever and saved this factory. Gromit! It has been 25 years". The Daily Telegraph. 4 November 2014. Archived from the original on 7 November 2014 . Retrieved 15 August 2015. The bright orange balloon made its maiden flight from Bristol's Harbourside, sailing across the city skies in the morning and then enjoying a late afternoon flight from the city's Ashton Court Estate. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.Upon landing, Wallace tries the cheese (which he suggests tastes like Wensleydale) but starts to question his theory on the moon. Also, a strange coin-operated robot shaped like an oven (complete with arms, wheels, and an awkwardly located eye) is encountered by the duo and unsuccessfully attempts to prevent Wallace from eating the cheese. The robot later seems to wish to go with them to Earth so he can try out some skiing. Wallace and Gromit think it is after them for stealing the cheese and try to escape. The winner agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material, as well as their entry. Any personal data relating to the winner, or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current [UK] data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent. We are so excited to be able to launch it into the Bristol skies and will be working with Aardman and The Grand Appeal over the coming years to raise as much money and awareness as we can for the charity, directly benefitting the families of Bristol”. The short debuted on 4 November 1989, at an animation festival at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol. [5] [6] [7] [8] It was first broadcast on 24 December 1990, Christmas Eve, on Channel 4. [9] [10] A Grand Day Out is followed in the series by 1993's The Wrong Trousers, 1995's A Close Shave, 2005's The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and 2008's A Matter of Loaf and Death. Also in reality, the moon is unfit to breathe because there's no air there while Wallace and Gromit were seen walking on the moon without any spacesuits or even space helmets on.
