About this deal

Maz Evans writes popular characters from Greek mythology in a way that is recognisable but also modern and hilarious. Zeus isn't exactly the creep we love to hate, but rather a larger than life father figure who has too many ex wife's and an ongoing feud with Hera.

Elliot Hooper's troubles are far from over: his mum's health worsens, he's struggling at school, and a bunch of anarchic Greek immortals have moved into his home - including teen goddess Virgo, who's in trouble with the Zodiac. Read two books of this series. Some of the things are quite nice, like the hero's mother's wish & the whole position of the relationship of the hero with his mother. & the villain's mother's manipulation & wiliness. – Niekas negali pakeisti mamos.“

A Piece of Passion from Barry Cunningham, Publisher ‘What I like about the classical gods is that they are so true to life. Wild, naughty, emotional and unpredictable, they carry on a bit like us humans – but with superpowers! Of course, in this story our hero Elliot has some serious real life problems to deal with too, and so Maz Evans takes us on a funny yet thoughtful romp. Hold on to your pants because you are likely to lose everything else!’ As a scriptwriter, her original musical H. R. HAITCH (with composer Luke Bateman) was produced at the Union Theatre, London in 2018. She has previously had shows produced at the Actors’ Church Covent Garden, Southend Palace Theatre and Bryanston Arts Centre and she was awarded places in the Holby Cityand CasualtyBBC Shadow schemes. I loved that we were grounded by Elliot’s scary home situation. The scenes between Elliot and his mum were touching, loving and heartbreaking at the same time, and this aspect of the book was so well balanced with the humour and absurdity of the Gods. This book is laugh out loud hilarious and I just adored each and every character. Elliot is brave and good hearted and going through such a hard time. The Gods were hilarious and I love how Maz has made them so quirky, fallible and bang up to date. There is also a rather special appearance from her Majesty the Queen that was quite simply magnificent. Who Let The Gods Out is the first in a four part series and I for one am very excited to see what happens next for Elliot and his new friends. ~ Shelley Fallows

They need the King of the Gods and his noble steed. Instead, they get a chubby Zeus and his high horse Pegasus.Rekomenduoju. Maloniai praleidau laiką. Pilna nuotykių, veiksmo ir to tokio cinkelio, kurio visada norisi vaikui – pasijausti superherojumi – svarbiu, gabiu, reikalingu ir laimingu. Ir pabaigai, ištrauka i Šventojo Kodekso! Amen. Maz has contributed to RETURN TO WONDERLAND, THE BOOK OF HOPES and SWALLOWED BY A WHALE and her children’s poetry has been published in Caterpillar magazine. Her career began as a TV journalist, writing for The Daily Telegraphand TV Timesmagazine and she still regularly broadcasts her views on anything from politics to parenthood on BBC Radio 2 and the bus. Of course mythological fiction will be derivative, but THIS is stale & cliched, even for a children's book.

The storyline of Elliot's house and nasty teacher is also woven in, and is very satisfyingly drawn together. Every character you remember gets their moment. Maz Evans began her writing career in journalism as a TV critic and feature writer. She is also the founder of Story Stew, a creative writing programme that visits primary schools and literary festivals around the UK. She lives in London with her husband and four children. Anyone who has read books 1-3 of the 'Who Let the Gods Out' series will of course, be reading this no matter what. The story of Elliot, unwittingly involved with the Greek Gods and their battles as he himself battles his mum's dementia has been a moving one. Shortlisted for both the Waterstones Children's Book Prize and the Books Are My Bag Readers' Award. The star is Virgo. She thinks she's perfect. Elliot doesn't. And together they release Thanatos, evil Daemon of Death ... epic fail.I enjoyed listening to this episode, the others I've read on paper. Maz Evans herself takes on narrator duties and does so very well indeed, with lots of energy and voices for each separate character. Elliot's life is spiralling out of control. He's been suspended from school, his ex-convict dad is useless around the house and his mum's health is worsening. What's more, the gods are determined to forge on with the quest for the third chaos stone I was captivated from the get-go–the story is charmingly infectious, Elliot is a great main character (I adored how sassy he was,) and the Gods were SO unique. Before I start my rant, because the Gods know that I need one, I /can/ see some redeeming features: it was fun to read from the view of someone who knows a lot about Roman/Greek mythology, and it definitely appealed to its audience with its child-friendly humour. The first book in the hilarious bestselling WHO LET THE GODS OUT series, shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize!
