About this deal

A:With this being a DIY product, we cannot provide an installation warranty. The installation process is outside of our control.

Seal both fireplaces lower in the chimney using 2 pieces of the Chimney Draught Stopper (or potentially 2 Chimney Draught Stoppers- depending on size). That’s really all there is to it. When you decide to have a fire, gently remove the plug and try not to rip the plastic bag. But if you do rip it, just replace the bag. You can do that about 70 times before you’ve reached the cost of one chimney balloon! I found the copper pipe draining my TPR valve also stays warm so it is obviously losing energy too and I have covered it in foam lagging. It might be helpful to offer this in a "Customers who bought Valvecosy also bought ..." type offer. Often referred to as letter box flue, modern houses generally later than 1960s often have a pre-cast concrete flue system in the UK. Safety glasses and a dust mask (or a respirator with a particulate filter if you’ve got one) are a good idea if you have to cut any insulation. You’ll also want them during installation, in case you dislodge any soot from your flue. Not only does creosote accumulate and interfere with the flue’s efficiency, but it is also combustible and causes chimney fires. Under the right conditions, a spark or burning ember launched from the fire can travel up the flue and ignite the creosote. The resulting fire can send flames or burning debris out from the chimney top, posing a potential threat to the roof or adjacent surfaces. Just push the wool head into the narrow part of the flue. You may need to tug it down gently to ensure a good fit. That’s it. When you want to remove it, pull gently in case there is any debris collected on it that has fallen down the chimney. Tap any loose soot into the fireplace, and put it in a bag.

You’ll need to measure your flue and choose the brush that’s about ¼ inch larger than the flue. An estimate of the length of the flue will tell you how many rod sections you’ll need. It is also possible for there to be no flue at all – if this is the case a gas fire and fireplace can be fitted on a suitable outside wall using a balanced flue or power flue. Once this plug is in place, it will stop cold air from coming into your home through the chimney and prevents warm air from escaping, this is very important because it can help to improve energy efficiency and almost definitely lower your heating costs, I know everyone likes that, and as an added bonus It will also prevent animals, debris, and rainwater from entering the firebox.Or Class Two which is either a pre-cast letterbox concrete flue built into the cavity of a wall or a 5″ (125mm) diameter pre-fabricated metal flue. These are normally built into newer properties or inserted into Class One chimneys that are not suitable for burning solid fuel. Installing a plug is an easy process that can be a DIY project for any homeowner, here are the basic steps involved in installing a common inflatable flue plug: The upshot is that the same properties that make your chimney effective—for the tiny portion of the year that you have fires—are working against you the remainder of the time. What about My Damper? Use a manual or electric pump to inflate the plug once it is in place, be careful not to over-inflate the plug this can cause damage or it may break inside the chimney.

Like many of us, you probably love your open fireplace. There is a cozy and comforting feel about an open fire with all the associated sounds, smells, warmth and colour. There is no doubt that an open fireplace is not only synonymous with entertaining friends and family it is also a fantastic decorative feature that enhances your living space.Ease of installation: buy one that you know will be easy to install, some plugs require special tools or a professional to install them, but most can be easily installed by most homeowners. Foam plugs are also made from insulation materials and they can be easy to install and mold to the shape of the chimney, but they might not be as durable as metal or fiberglass. Fiberglass plugs are lightweight, easy to install, and can withstand extreme temperatures, normally they are less durable than metal stoppers. This worked well for open fires but meant that they weren’t that efficient. Open fires are gradually being phased out as they do not conform to new eco design 2022 regulations.

A plug is a cost-effective solution for sealing off a chimney that is not noticeable, and is especially cheap when compared to other options like rain caps, dampers, or damper caps. There are products on the market called “chimney balloons” that are specially designed to inflate to fit the inside of your flue. In fact, the U.S. Department of Energy recommends using them to seal your chimney at the end of this article. I can hear some of you asking: isn’t stopping drafts what my damper is for? Or maybe you use the term “flue,” as in “opening and closing the flue.” (Technically the flue is the opening in your chimney, and the damper is the flap that opens and closes).Experts recommend closing off the fireplace(s) with plastic sheeting and duct tape before the event and laying drop cloths over adjacent furnishings. There are many different types of chimney plugs on the market, each has its own unique benefits and features so let’s look at the list and see which one is right for you: The two halves come completely apart which makes it easy to fit but it might be even easier if the halves were hinged in a clamshell arrangement (not so easy to drop one half).
