About this deal

Faking It is a hilarious romantic comedy about what really matters in life and a reminder that nobody is as perfect as they appear to be. Lexi has a mom with a long list of dirtbag boyfriends and an absent father. Over the course of the novel, Lexi has to deal with reconnecting with her father and his new family as well as facing her mother’s terrible, new boyfriend. One thing I didn’t like was how Lexi’s mom handled her past and current boyfriends. I found it strange how she could leave Lexi’s father, but still had boyfriends that abused her or sexual harassed Lexi. I love a good contemporary romance, and I guess that’s what made me request this book on NetGalley in the first place. However, I have to say, I was disappointed.

I loved everything about this book, it was an entertaining and fast book to read and certainly up to Portia MacIntosh's normal standards if not even better! Just loads of fun and I can imagine it would be a very amusing film too! Faking Perfect is the first arc I've received personally, thanks to www.netgalley.com/ for approving my request to read it :) I read the book a few weeks ago, but I've finally got around to writing the long, overdue review. This book was interesting, and different from what I normally read. I don't think I would classify this as romance, probably a self-discovery sort of teen book. The book could be pared down some, I found myself skimming over paragraphs and that's something I don't normally do. Another thing that I liked was how the story approached parental issues very straightforwardly. It was sad to see how little Lexi’s mother cared about her but I think it was also eye-opening, reading about how such a negative relationship could affect a person. It was reassuring to know that Lexi still had people who love and supported her- her next door neighbour and childhood friend Nolan (yay for a completely platonic boy-girl friendship btw!), and his mother, Teresa. The plot was predictable, from the start of the story I knew exactly what and how things would happen. Which I tend to be alright given the fact that is an contemporary, so I was looking forward more on the characterization. Did you read Faking Perfect? What did you think about it? If not, are you planning to read it? Feel free to share your thoughts in comments! I liked that the characters in this book are not all perfect little cookie cutter characters, the majority of them are deeply flawed and I really appreciated that. In particular, Ben, I love that he didn't just turn out to be your typical nice clean cut all American guy who the main character loses interest in only because he is too perfect, he was actually a deeply flawed character who turned out to, while looking perfect on the surface, actually be a huge asshole and I really appreciated that.

The only character I really love was her childhood best friend Nolan, I thought he was such a sincere friend as i got to know a lot about him. Which is a bit ironic as their conversation was more often then with her other two love interest. When Lexi Shaw seduced Oakfield High’s resident bad boy Tyler Flynn at the beginning of senior year, he seemed perfectly okay with her rules: Alright, are you looking for a laugh out loud, fun and lively romcom to take the winter blues away? I've got one right here from one of my favorite Boldwood authors, Portia MacIntosh.Witty writing, laugh out loud moments and a heart-warming story is the standard I have come to expect from Portia Macintosh and Faking It does not disappoint.

Okay, so yes I've this problem that the writer didn't actually give more description about the characters because yes that made it difficult for me to imagine about them. This book is about a girl Lexi, she is a very authentic and a perfect person in front of the society, she is popular, intelligent and what not? There are no words to explain what a total delight reading this book was for me. Between the laugh out loud moments of Ella’s mishaps, the enchanting new “friend” Marco, the capricious teenagers she is now “mothering,” and the “Yummy Mummy Mafia” (don’t even ask), this book has got it all. Through this journey of misadventures, watching Ella find her way and figure herself out just ends up being the icing on the cake. Such an entertaining and satisfying read, I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down once you start, and when you do, I’m certain those winter blues will be gone. The plot is light and humorous although there are some emotional events and some thought provoking questions around relationships and dealing with the past. For those who have the time – it’s easily a one sitting read although it’s nice to spread the joy over several days too. Personally, I liked that Lexi wasn't the 'good girl' cliche I see often in young adult contemporaries. She had flaws of her own, whether they were obvious--like her mother's current dating life, or less obvious things--such as letting Tyler Flynn inside her window at midnight.
