About this deal

Damage per second (DPS) ignores reload times. Weapons with 1 shot in their magazine will still have a set DPS which is not actually applicable in game. Most weapons do not have a different Structure Damage, though Explosives typically deal increased Structure Damage. Damage is not the same as Structure Damage, which can be different to the damage weapons deal to opponents. Shotguns are the most useful weapons up close, and there are three varieties: the pump shotgun, the tactical shotgun, and the heavy shotgun.

We may have seen the last of the Kymera Ray Gun, but I sure hope not. This alien tech weapon acted as an alternative to the SMG class and provided a continuous stream of death ray energy the likes of which Fortnite has never seen before or since. While it's weak on builds, it's devastating on players and vehicles. If it meant having the island invaded again so I could play with the Kymera Ray Gun once more, I might take the deal. Pump Shotgun (Epic Or Legendary) Fortnite Battle Royaleis now free-to-play on the PC, Xbox One and PS4, allowing those who don’t own the full Fortnite game to experience its new survival mode for the low price of absolutely nothing. Below you'll see we've categorised all the guns in Fortnite into their respective classes, which you can peruse using the links below. The stats below are taken from a combination of patch notes, the Fortnite wiki, and our own tests. So let's get to it! A bit of a pointless addition when it was first introduced, the nerf to the Pump has left the door wide open for the Heavy to become the best shotgun in Fortnite. Available in Epic and Legendary rarities, you can shoot seven shells with the Heavy Shotgun before needing to reload it. I'd use this in the same manner as I'd use a Drum Gun, or a Suppressed SMG: good for following up after a shotgun blast at close quarters, and good for suppressing the enemy; but compared to the other Assault Rifles on offer, even a Gold Tactical AR is very weak at longer ranges.Light Bullets: Used for weapons which deal a small amount of damage per shot, such as Submachine Guns and some Pistols. Weapon Categories are not strictly defined by the game. However, there are categories which are definitively weapon categories, as the contents of the category, fit established weapon rules. Other categories have items which may be classed as weapons, but also contain some which are ambiguous, or not weapons at all (these will be specified). As the name suggests, burst assault rifles fire in three round bursts, while a basic assault rifle is full auto. The burst has some accuracy pros as a result over distance, but the class does have a lower damage and firing rate overall. Seeing as you can recreate the effects of a burst rifle with an assault just by tapping the trigger, it's worth swapping out for an assault rifle if you get a chance. Rarer Fortnite guns are always best, but DPS beats damage if you’re a poor shot

The Minigun is able to positively shred through most structures and suppress the enemy until they either run out of mats or make a mistake. It’s very annoying to come up against thanks to it not having to reload; you only have to stop shooting when you run out of mini bullets, which are the most plentiful ammo in the game. For the love of Christ, though: don’t just stand out in the open when you’re using it. Bullets can be hitscan (which is an instant connection) or a projectile, which moves at a set speed with a physical object in the world. In terms of what to carry around, small shield potions are the best bet. You can gulp them down in no time for 25 shield points, and although they can only give you a maximum of 50 at a time, they’re perfect for keeping you sustained between firefights. The standard shield potions, which grant you 50 points apiece, are good too, but generally you won’t be carrying them around because you’ll use them as soon as you see them. In Fortnite, the trade-off for high damage is often a slower fire rate. For example, the pump shotgun can crush an enemy with full health and shields in one shot. But if you miss, then you’ll have to wait more than a second to fire again. That might not seem like a long time, but in a close-range battle it’s an age. If you know that your aim isn’t great, then the tactical shotgun might be a better option. In a single shot it will deal less damage, but it churns out more damage per second because of its fast fire rate, and so you’ll likely land more shots. With a ridiculous rate of fire, high damage, and a gigantic clip, it’s a monster at any confrontations in mid-close range; the damage drop-off and spray is a bit too much for it to be ideal for long-range encounters. With it having manageable bloom up close and being arguably the most user-friendly gun in the game (just spray and pray), the Compact SMG should find a home in your inventory whenever possible.Any of the best Fortnite weapons we missed? Should a different sniper rifle or shotgun made the cut? Be sure to let us know and we’ll 1v1 you on Playground.

Use the minigun to tear up buildings: it’s too inaccurate to rely on in firefights. Fortnite's best sniper rifle: Bolt-action sniper Your other close-range options include SMGs and pistols. The silenced pistol is strong, but is better suited to mid-range battles because of its lower damage (see section below). SMGs are decent, especially the tactical variants, and are more versatile than shotguns. But you should only lean on them early in the game when you don’t have an assault rifle to deal with enemies at mid-range. Up close, shotguns better them. Fortnite's best rifles: SCAR and burst-fire assault rifle The only real downside to the SCAR is that it’s almost like a strange curse to find it early on. Other players will hunt you down to get their hands on it if they hear you firing, as well as medium bullets not being all that common early on. Still, if you can reach the mid-game with a SCAR in your inventory alongside your hopes and dreams, you’re setting yourself up for glory. Heavy Bullets: Used for weapons which deal a high amount of damage per shot, like most Sniper Rifles and some Pistols. You wouldn’t believe that the Compact SMG has already been considerably nerfed if you use it now. At release, it was a bit of a joke and the most unbalanced weapon introduced to any competitive game. Nowadays it isn’t quite as strong, though it’s still more than capable of causing a lot of mayhem to opponents and structures. People are begging for it to be removed, and it’s easy to see why.You won't find all the colours for every gun but as a rule the damage will always increase as you go up the scale, and the reload time will usually decrease. So a blue assault rifle will generally beat a grey one in a fight between two players of equal skill, or give a weaker opponent an advantage. This is why the gold legendary SCAR is the best Fortnite gun in general - its biggest difference is that it does 36 damage compared to a grey common version's 30, giving it a DPS of 198 over a grey's 165. Visual change during Fortnitemares Event. Though, during Fortnitemares the Common variant was vaulted at that time so it's unknown as it would've been used or not. Those who are just hopping into the game will immediately notice that it’s very similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, another Battle Royale game that developers Epic Games drew plenty of inspiration from (even if PUBG developer Bluehole weren’t very happy about them using their ideas). However, one key difference between PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale is how the latter approaches its weaponry, with its guns not strewn across the floor of empty buildings, but instead represented by floating, colored orbs that indicate their respective power levels.
