Unfortunately, PETG is extremely prone to stringing, which is why it is more difficult to print than PLA, for example. So calibrating the settings is a must. However, the values given above should provide a good starting point. For some PETG filaments, the settings might already be ideal. They look identical at first glance. But when you look closely, you’ll immediately see the effects of layer height on the two prints. On the left halloween pumpkin, the layers are almost visible while the right one has a smoother texture to it. At 60 mm/s, the print on the left turned out practically as perfect as can be. When we increased the print speed to 90 mm/s, we noticed some slight stringing between the holes of the drain, but overall it was still a pretty solid print and still came out very circular.
Both printers use a Meanwell PSU which is a dependable power supply for fast heating and long hours of 3D printing. We have seen this first hand since none of our printers with these PSUs have needed replacements, while other machines with lower quality power supplies have died on us. Verdict Both printers use a standard hot end that is not a full metal design, meaning that the nozzle temperature is limited to 260 °C like previous printers in the Ender 3 series. The build platform can heat up to 100 °C. These are sufficient temperatures for printing most standard materials, including PLA, PETG, and ABS. These temperatures also allow for TPU, but the Bowden extruder setup makes printing with flexible materials more difficult, and we recommend choosing a printer with direct drive like the Ender 3 S1 if you are looking to print flexible materials.The first layer is often a source of frustration in 3D printing. If it does not adhere properly to the print bed, the print fails entirely.
For this particular set of prints we had power outages unfortunately, which the Ender 3 V2 Neo recovered from owing to its power outage recovery features (discussed further in the next section!). The print quality would have been smoother without these issues most likely, and when it had an uninterrupted run, the print quality was high. The PC spring steel plate offers excellent adhesion, requires little to no cleaning (even after dozens of prints), and is remarkably user-friendly. Owing to its rigidity, the steel plate makes it a hassle-free experience to remove it from the printer and get the prints off of it. All you need to do is flex the plate and off comes the print. So, we printed the halloween mini-pumpkin on the left at 0.1 mm, and the one on the right at 0.2 mm. This is what they looked like.All this can be done in 25 minutes, which is not bad for a printer of its capacity. Once we got the parts together, we shifted our attention to the newly added features. That said, if your budget is constrained and you don’t mind tinkering with gadgets, then the Ender 3 Neo is a great buy too. It’s definitely not a compromise in terms of print quality or performance. The machine settings should be defined as shown in the screenshot above. This way, Cura knows how big the printer and its print head is. Depending on which PETG filament you are using, it may be necessary to set the cooling to 100% or reduce it slightly. For every 12.5 mm increase in height, the print speed increases by 20 mm/s.
